Publisher's Summary

It's July 5th, and the Cape Cod roadways are clogged with tourists heading home from the holiday weekend and trying to outrun an approaching potentially catastrophic hurricane. But in the blink of an eye, their lives are thrown into chaos when terrorists bring down the bridges to the Cape. Instantly, a half million terrified people have no way to escape. And when the terrorists threaten to release anthrax on the captive population if their demands aren't met, fear turns to all-out panic.

With time running out, Marcus Baldwin, a private investigator and former CIA operative, and Sara Cross, a disgraced ex-homicide detective, are brought together by a sole clue to the identity of the terrorists. They quickly realize that they may be the only ones with even a chance at stopping the plot before it's too late.

With Hurricane Chad barreling up the coast on a path for a direct hit on Cape Cod, it becomes frighteningly clear to everyone trapped on what has now become an island - one way or another they are probably all going to die.

Thrilling.

I didn't read any reviews of this and only skimmed the blurb before starting and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Plot wise, this takes place in Cape Cod on the July 4th weekend. It's July 5th and the celebrations are over and people are starting to return home, but there is a storm coming the likes of which haven't been seen in a long time! People need to leave the Island as soon as possible but as they are, the bridges in an out of the Island blow up. Terrorists are holding the people hostage and have said they will release Anthrax if their demands aren't met. The plot was well written and developed and it flowed well. It's terrifying enough with a category 4 hurricane barreling towards you, but add in the Terrorists and it created a fast paced and thrilling read!

Character wise, there were a few, we even see through the eyes of some of the terrorists, but all were well written. I liked Marcus, who is a private eye and was hired to follow a suspect for a rich client. He was calm, capable and a nice guy. Then we have Sara, a former cop who was fired for having drugs in her car, which just happened to be placed there by her boss whom hit on her and she stopped his advances. She teams up with Marcus to try to find out what is happening to her Island. I enjoyed the relationship between Marcus and Sara and hope we see more from them.

In all, this was a good read. I enjoyed both the terrorist story line and the storm story line. Both blend seamlessly together near the end and made for an exciting and fast paced read. I will definitely check out more from this author.

Greg Hernandez did a good job reading this. His voice was clear and easy to follow, I just felt he lacked a little in the performance part. I wanted him to add more tension when needed as, at the exciting bits, his pace stayed the same. Other than that he did fine.

I was voluntarily provided this free copy by the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Fast Moving Thriller

What made the experience of listening to Deadly Shore the most enjoyable?

Clean cut story that moves.

What about Greg Hernandez’s performance did you like?

Solid performance that in no way distracted from the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. There were no slow parts. The main characters were likable and the premise, though a bit over the top, put you in the "what would I do" frame of mind.

A really good mystery/action/detective story

Would you consider the audio edition of Deadly Shore to be better than the print version?

Audio is better. I found this book to be intriguing right from the jump. I was compelled to read it though almost in one straight sitting. It is full of complex characters and a gripping story. There are so many unique individual characters with their concurrent stories as well as the main plot , that the author does a masterful job of keeping all the arcs going smoothly forward. I would recommend this book to fans of mystery and detective works. It was really enjoyable.

Great story!

This is a very fasted story. Terrorism is a scary thought, but make such a great book. even more so when its one of or own.
Once you hit play, it grabs you and takes you for a ride. you do not have to wait for things to happen.
thought I loved this story, I did not care at all for the narration. He was very robotic, and monotone. He, to me sounded rushed and in bored. I guess that would be ok in some stories, but this was a action packed book, and the robotic voice for me, didn't work.

Deadly Good!

Like suspense? Like thrillers? Then you’ll love Deadly Shore! Cape Cod is about to get hit with a double whammy! Hurricane Chad is bearing down on the vacation spot, meanwhile terrorists have taken out the bridges in the Cape leaving millions stranded. Now add in the threat of releasing anthrax if the terrorists demands aren’t met and you have a trifecta of terror. It’s fascinating to watch it all unfold.

This story intertwines several points of views. You have the disgraced former police officer Sara Cross, who together with Private Detective Marcus Baldwin follow the clues to try and thwart the terrorist demands. Then there’s Doyle an inept thief who ends up stealing more than he bargained for and the people he stole from want their property back! Doyle ends up hiding out and riding out the storm at the home of an “easy” mark, feisty senior citizen Anne. She ends up being more than he bargained for too!

This audiobook clocks in at nearly 7 hours and is narrated by Greg Hernandez. Greg has a stiff delivery and not much inflection of emotion or differentiation in character voices. Still, he did an adequate job. The excellent writing by author Andrew Cunningham easily overcomes the narrator's delivery.

Solid fast paced fiction

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, happy to tell a friend to read this one. While some audio books keep me company as I work, in the case of “Deadly Shores” I was finding things which had to be done just so I could continue listening. If you knew me and chores, you’d understand this is truly high praise.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I love fiction set on islands and the excitement of an impending hurricane is a great plot device. “Deadly Shore” gave me both. Summer on Cape Cod is crowded with tourists and a category 4 hurricane barreling towards them provides high intensity excitement. Then, the kicker, a homegrown terrorist blows the bridges and holds the island captive.

What about Greg Hernandez’s performance did you like?

Narration is critical for any audio book. Although I have never listened to a Greg Hernandez performance, I was immediately attracted to the cadence of his voice. It was familiar and comfortable and brought the characters to life. I’m a narrator snob and believe the quality of the voice can make or break even the best storytelling. I will even choose a book based only on the narrator; for example Scott Brick. He reads it, I’m listening. Hernandez has made that list now.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Cunningham crafted some interesting characters including a former CIA agent now working as a PI, a “disgraced” local female cop, a feisty senior citizen prepared to battle storm and man (that was me in my head), terrorists and even Hurricane Chad. Just a really well written, fast paced tale. The kind of book you could read in a weekend, and be satisfied.

Any additional comments?

Disclaimer to make the lawyers happy – I was voluntarily provided a free copy of this audio book by the narrator and this is my honest and unbiased review. I wouldn’t hesitate to read another Cunningham novel and would gladly choose to listen to anything Hernandez narrated

Thrilling Listen!

This is the second book by Andrew Cunningham that I have listened to. Greg Hernandez is a very talented narrator. I loved all of the twist and turns in this book. The plot was scary in regards to thoughts of terrorists and what havoc they could cause. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and/or publisher.
