Publisher's summary

Nikki Heat and Jameson Rook race to stop a deadly threat from Heat's past as well as an all-too-present serial killer, in Richard Castle's follow-up to the New York Times best-seller Frozen Heat.

Determined to find justice for her mother, top NYPD Homicide Detective Nikki Heat continues to pursue the elusive former CIA station chief who ordered her execution more than a decade ago. For the hunt, Nikki teams once again with her romantic partner, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Jameson Rook, and their quest for the old spy and the motive behind the past murder unearths an alarming terror plot, which is anything but ancient history. It is lethal. It is now. And it has already entered its countdown phase.

Complicating Heat's mission to bring the rogue spy to justice and thwart the looming terror event, a serial killer begins menacing the Twentieth Precinct, and her homicide squad is under pressure to stop him, and soon. Known for his chilling stealth, the diabolical murderer not only singles out Nikki as the exclusive recipient of his taunting messages, he names her as his next victim.

Too many product commercials

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes but annoyed by the ridiculous advertisements in the story. Every time a product description popped up, it was so blatant it pulled me from the story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nikki Heat. Strong woman but starting to dislike Rook a bit.

Which character – as performed by Robert Petkoff – was your favorite?

Nikki. Good narrator.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Would there be ridiculous product ads filing the screen?

Any additional comments?

I paid for the book, not a weird description of Nikki eating a peanut butter cup for no reason. If it's sponsored by ads, it should be free.

Love the humor.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I really enjoy the humor in this series. I also like the fact that it keeps you on your toes and is not something that is easy to figure out.

Don't understand why they changed narrators

What did you love best about Deadly Heat?

Its a good book in a great series

Who was your favorite character and why?

Probably rook. He's like a 5 year seeing everything through a childs eye.

Would you be willing to try another one of Robert Petkoff’s performances?

Not really

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Wish you would have brought back Heller for the other books

Another knock out for Castle

This was my second time around listening to this book. I picked up on more of the story this time. The one drawback for me was the narration. The narrator did not have enough separation between character voices in my opinion. As a result, many of the characters sounded the same therefore, it was hard for me to visualize individual characters.

Change Readers: Why

I am listening to this book right now . This doesn't sound like a Heat book. This reader doesn't sound like Heat , Rook, or Roach. Why wait until the last book to do this .

Can the heat rise much higher

If you could sum up Deadly Heat in three words, what would they be?

Great next installment

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sorry more than one

Would you listen to another book narrated by Robert Petkoff?

Yes but hope it will not be from this series. Nothing personal Mr. P

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

It just keeps getting hotter

Any additional comments?

GREAT follow up to the last book. This series always leaves me wanting more.....heat. Read other reviews about the book knocking the narrator. I can understand the comments but I do feel Petkoff did do a fine job with my only caveat being that Heller did a better job with the differences (voices) of the core ensemble. Why I do not know as the other characters in the book were affordered their own unique inflections, accents and well life. I do hope Mr. Heller will return for the next Installment of Nikki Heat as in other series read many times by a particular actor we learn to identify with the "sound" they have created for each character. That said I will be anxiously awaiting Mr. Castle's (who ever you are) next book either it be stormy or hot..

Enjoyable but only for Castle fans

This fifth entry in the Nikki Heat series follows the fourth book, Frozen Heat, as a solid but mediocre detective story. Castle fans will enjoy this book, and it is entertaining to read. But there are much better options in this genre, and non-Castle fans would do better elsewhere. Still, this book has a well-paced plot and complex mystery. If you are a Castle fan, you’ll enjoy the characters, otherwise you’ll probably find them to be rather uninteresting. I don’t want to sound too negative on the book as it was a fun read, and I was absorbed in the story. It does read very much as if Richard Castle (TV character) is the author. I guess it just comes across like a tasty treat without nutritional value.

Best Nikki Heat yet

What made the experience of listening to Deadly Heat the most enjoyable?

New person reading the book.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, these books are getting better and better.

What does Robert Petkoff bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Much better performance than Heller. So glad they found a better quality performer to read these books. Great accents and variety of character voices. Much improved over the nasal voice of Heller. I had a hard time listening to those books. I have enjoyed listening more than once to this book.
I was hoping Wild Storm would have Petkoff reading and they ended up not even releaseing an audio book??

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Nope

Any additional comments?

I hope they continue to release the audio books for all of the Richard Castle books. And continue to let Petkoff read them.

Narrator

Peykoff is okay as a narrator but I think Heller does a better job overall.
