Publisher's summary

The fear…

Malcolm York is a sadistic monster, guilty of unspeakable crimes. And with his endless wealth, he’s funded a series of depraved hunts. The few who survived can never forget. They can only be thankful the terror is over—until rumors start swirling.

Only stops…

Griffin Powell knows the twisted depths of York’s madness. He’s also sure that York is dead. But then Griff’s wife Nicole disappears, and the phone calls begin—that familiar voice taunting him, promising to destroy everything Griff loves.

When you die.

Using all the resources of the Powell Agency, Griff searches for Nic, aware that every step propels him further into a madman’s web—because the only way to keep Nic safe is to join one last perverse game in which the winner kills all and the loser is dead by nightfall.

More mayhem? Listen to the rest of the Dead By Trilogy.

*WARNING* cliffhanger without an ending

I’m not going to write a review because I just want to warn you that this book has a cliffhanger that unfortunately we will never know the ending to. Sadly this fantastic author passed away in 2011.

Binged the entire series!

It was a great ending to a heart stopping trilogy. The story was a little long but it kept my blood pressure tittering.

Wonderful ending

I absolutely loved this story and the ending!!! I wanted more about Yvette & Rafe and Sanders & Barbara Jean.

Narration needs some work

The book was good - I read the other two in the dead by series. I had a hard time with the narrator - her Yvette and Sanders narration made me cringe. She makes them sound like robots.

struggled

The storyline may be great but the readers tone and at times the way she spoke haltingly was very irritating and drew the story out.

What a pretty sniping Meleia

I would have given this 5 but having to deal with the sniping, petty, irritating best friend is making this a hard listen. I didn’t care for her when she was introduced and even less so now

Too Far-fetched & slow moving

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Beverly Barton could have tied up the story in 2 books withoutwasting time with a far-fatched conveluted story. I was very disappointed with book 3.

Has Dead by Nightfall turned you off from other books in this genre?

No-unless the next one is also has unbelievable & complicated characters.

What aspect of Karen White’s performance would you have changed?

She drew out the scenario of the kidnappling & evil characters for too long.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Dead by Nightfall?

Half of the capture scenes.

Any additional comments?

Beverly Barton could have made a believable story in 3 hours instead of 7.

They just get better......

yes, thank you, Beverley, this is better than 1 and possible 2 too. I liked 2, but this is different again and certainly full of suspense and has plenty of thrills as well. I like the premise from a suspense/thriller point of view and would not be surprised if at least some of this book was partly true. Human beings can wallow in the depths of depravity as well as reaching the heights of greatness through creativity & achievements to better the human condition. This book takes us on that journey and the classic fight for good over evil. All in all and enjoyable listen and narrated well.

Great Book

Would you consider the audio edition of Dead by Nightfall to be better than the print version?

Yes because it brings the characters to life.

What did you like best about this story?

The story was well thought out. The timing of events drew me to keep listening waiting for the next riveting part.

Which character – as performed by Karen White – was your favorite?

Malcolm York

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Riveting

Any additional comments?

I listened to the first two books of this trilogy. After the second I searched for the third because I had to find out what happened to Nicole. I could not wait to have it listed by another site.
