KEPT ME ON MY TOES

DATE WITH A GHOST is the second book in the Restless Spirits series. The books in this series are stand-alones and can be read in any order.

What a great cozy mystery! I was kept guessing until the very end and isn’t that what you want in a cozy? There was also a nice romantic element. In fact, she had two prospects – her ghostly paramour and the town deputy sheriff. Two sexy men, one for daytime and one for night.

I love how Angela Pepper keeps me on my toes as I listen to her stories. All of the clues are there, but like a thrift store jigsaw puzzle, sometimes there are more pieces than are needed and you have to decide what to keep and what to throw back into the box. I can’t wait to read more from this series and this author!

Narration: Marie Hoffman is a wonderful narrator. I love listening to her as I drive.

Note: while I was given this book as a gifted audiobook copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Cleverly Written Supernatural Suspense!

Date With a Ghost is a heartwarming second book in the supernatural suspense series called the Restless Spirits Cozy Ghost Mysteries by Angela Pepper. This is not the typical cozy mystery series with reoccurring main characters who solve mysteries. Rather, it’s a series based on the premise that some spirits will manifest themselves as a ghost to help complete unfinished business or to watch over a loved one. So, when you read that each book in this series is a stand-alone, take it literally!

Date With a Ghost begins with lifestyle blogger Samantha moving to Owl Bend, Colorado to get a fresh start after a tragedy befalls her. There she meets Warren a handsome nature and wild life photographer and after one date, things begin to look up. While waiting for Warren to meet her for their second date in a local bar, Sam sees him arrive while simultaneously taking a phone call from the local deputy sheriff who is informing her that Warren is dead. With the ghost’s appearance each night, Sam is drawn into finding out how Warren really died. When she begins to suspect that Warren’s death was no accident, she is kidnapped and tortured by the killer. This mystery was cleverly written with a very good red herring!

I listened to the Audible version of this story narrated by Marie Hoffman who did a fantastic job. I'd gladly listen to another audiobook narrated by her and in this series. I can't wait to see whose ghost appears next to this intriguing series!

OMG what a twist!

I really enjoyed this book, the story was interesting and creative and there was a fantastic twist that put everything that had happened in a different light.

This is a standalone book, you don't need to have read book one there's no crossover of characters or occurrences.

The book has a lovely cast of characters, they're fun, quirky and I enjoyed getting to know them. Samantha comes across as quite odd to start with but I couldn't help but come to care about her, her story is quite tragic.

The narration is well done, I enjoyed the character voices and the delivery was a great match for this quirky little story.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Dating a Ghost can be dangerous.

Samantha came to Colorado because of a crisis she needed to get away from. When everyone in the bar keeps looking at her like she is crazy. Samantha wondered why her date would be in a white tuxedo only to realize he is a ghost when she receives a phone call from someone she believes to be Warren.

Warren was a nature and wild life photographer. Sam is a life style blogger. Toni, the redhead, Sam meets in a bar claims to be Warren's girlfriend. A local reporter has problems of her own.

When Sam realizes that Warren is actually dead, she assumes he is the ghost and wants her to find his killer. While investigating, things go terribly wrong.

The book is fun to listen to and the story is compelling with twists that are not expected.

A blogger and a ghost walk into a bar...

I love this story. It has such a melancholy air from the beginning and Samantha seems so sad and troubled...

The story unravels slowly, a clue here and there, while keeping your interest all the time and getting you engaged in Samantha's wellbeing. And doesn't matter what you think you know, at the end you'll be surprised for the final twist of the story.

A very unusual cozy, but one I truly enjoyed.

And something really strange happened to me with the narrator, Marie Hoffman. I wasn't convinced during the first minutes of the audiobook, but by the end? I couldn't think of anyone who could have done it better.
