Publisher's summary

Alex Cross chases a cold-blooded killer with a conscience.

Shots ring out in the early morning hours in the suburbs of Washington, DC. When the smoke clears, a prominent police official lies dead, leaving the city's police force scrambling for answers. Under pressure from the mayor, Alex Cross steps into the leadership vacuum to crack the case. But before Cross can make any headway, a brutal crime wave sweeps across the region. The deadly scenes share only one common thread: The victims are all criminals. And the only thing more dangerous than a murderer without a conscience is a killer who thinks he has justice on his side.

As Cross pursues an adversary who has appointed himself judge, jury, and executioner, he must take the law back into his own hands before the city he's sworn to protect descends into utter chaos.

Annoying sound effects

This was a solid story but I only gave it 4 stars because of the annoying sound effects. They were too loud and greatly annoyed me. There was almost no character development in the book and all action. It was worth listening to but not my favorite Cross book.

Difficult to Hear

It was a struggle to listen to this book. I have listen to many Alex Cross stories and the reader for this book was different and did not sound like Alex Cross. Please bring back the original.

Alex Cross Book 24 Solves The Case

This is Book 24 in the Alex Cross series. It was riveting. There were two events going on at the same time, a motorcyclist who sped up behind unsuspecting drivers who were usually doing something illegal like speeding or texting, and shot them in the head. The other event was the drive by shooting of the Chief of Detectives and his female friend exiting a grocery store. Are they related? Alex and John Sampson, his sidekick in every book, investigate and think the drive by is too neat the way a suicide seems to point as the killer. But, the chief of police wants to close the case so he pushes to accept the evidence. In his mind, one case closed. But, further investigation pushes for another shooter. The case of the motorcyclist killer is proving more involved and several vigilante killings follow. While all this is going on, Alex has a private life at home and his daughter is a track star, his nanamoma is trying out her cooking skills, but the ending if the real kicker. You must read this book if you are a fan of Alex Cross. But, if you are new don't start here but start at the beginning. You have a wonderful experience ahead of you. I listened to this one on audible and found it well done but the sound effects detracted from the story which is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. James Patterson still has it proven by his many bestsellers.

Solid continuation of the series

I've read them all since book one, and this doesn't disappoint. it's suspenseful and has the characters we all know and love. It goes by too quickly!

Loud bangs and explosions ruined this book.

What disappointed you about Cross the Line?

I couldn't hear or follow the story because of the constant interruptions of loud explosions, bangs and other noisy theatrics.

What could James Patterson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Just tell me the story, let my own imagination soar. I've enjoyed Harry Bosch for so many years but can't get through even the first half hour of this one.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Ryan Vincent Anderson and Pete Bradbury ?

Narrators were fine.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Couldn't get to the story so no. I feel so let down, as I was looking forward to it.

It was ok

I really like the Alex Cross series, but I think this was the most disappointing one I have heard. the storyline was ok, but the narrator changed and he was kind of bland.

What is with the annoying sound effects

Would you try another book from James Patterson and/or Ryan Vincent Anderson and Pete Bradbury ?

yes

Would you be willing to try another book from James Patterson? Why or why not?

yes

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Annoyance

Any additional comments?

I got into this book maybe 5 minutes and had to shut it off. THE most annoying sound effects I have ever heard. KNOCK off the sound effects and read the book, I know what a car sounds like.

No More Spiders

What would have made Cross the Line better?

If Patterson put in even a small fraction of the effort he did in his earlier works. No one in their right mind could have ever guessed that the author who wrote Along Came a Spider or Kiss the Girls would be the same author who wrote this slop

Has Cross the Line turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not at all----just the author. I won't read another book by him. It's really my own fault that I read this book since he's been going downhill for years, but I naively hoped that the absence of a co-author and the fact that it was an Alex Cross novel would make it interesting.

How could the performance have been better?

Almost any other narrator and the absence of all the extraneous sound effects would have helped. But maybe I am being too hard on the reader. I doubt that even the great Scott Brick could have salvaged this bow-wow

BEWARE!!!

Would you try another book from James Patterson and/or Ryan Vincent Anderson and Pete Bradbury ?

Go back to the old narrators!! These narrators were terrible as I could not associate them with the characters I am use to hearing.

Would you ever listen to anything by James Patterson again?

Yes

Have you listened to any of Ryan Vincent Anderson and Pete Bradbury ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

If these were the narrators - no

Any additional comments?

I am use to the old voices and this threw the total book out of wack!
