Publisher's summary

Snow is falling softly as a young woman takes her last breath.

Fifteen miles away, two women sit silently in a dark kitchen. They don't speak, because there is nothing left to be said.

Another woman boards a plane to escape the man who is trying to steal her life. But she will have to return sooner or later.

These strangers have one thing in common. They each made one bad choice - and now they have no choices left. Soon they won't be strangers, they'll be family....

When DCI Tom Douglas is called to the cold, lonely scene of a suspicious death, he is baffled. Who is she? Where did she come from? How did she get there? How many more must die? Who is controlling them, and how can they be stopped?

What a great duo between this author and narrator

Come A Little Closer was one of the creepiest books just for its plausibility. This is a storyline that feels like it could happen and shows how trusting people can be of those they consider too old, or too weak, or just because they don’t feel like a threat. “Trust takes years to build, seconds to break and forever to repair.” This quote from Tom pretty much sums up the storyline. There are so many secrets and lies in this story.

It seriously starts out as a cluster… ok, through nearly half the audiobook it’s a bit of a conundrum. Rachel Abbott tosses out all these puzzle pieces one by one and you see the shape… but it’s a struggle to fit them together… but you keep listening and fitting piece by piece into its spot until you have the entire picture staring at you and you’re just plain shocked! OK, so that was me!

Then… that ending! This is definitely one you’re gonna want to listen to! Completely entrancing and completely hard to put together! Fantastic! Can’t wait for more! I love that for the most part we get this larger story but inside the story we learn about the main characters that stick with us through the series… Tom and Becky and a few others. I love hearing about their lives and how it has changed over time.

The narrator, Lisa Coleman, was an absolute pleasure to listen to. I enjoyed her British accent. I loved the way she was able to carry the tension of the story in her voice and tone. A narrator can really make or break a good book, and Miss Coleman only enhanced this story! What a great duo between this author and narrator. I’m definitely hoping for more from them.

I NEED MY CREDIT BACK

Too Long. Forced. Unreal. I could Probably buy into the story if it was a about only one woman. I don't want to give anything away, but I wish that I would have waited until it came to YouTube for a preview before wasting a credit. I think Rachel Abbott was banking on the success from the previous DCI Tom Banks novels and that her fans would be loyal readers and just follow along. I am upset with the Author and Audible. I almost started watching television again...NOT

Love it or leave it

I decided to leave it. Between the flashbacks and current times mixed it wth some dreams. I read a previous book by Rachel Abbott and liked it very much but this didnot have the same suspense and very believable story. I will try one more. I did like the reader who did a fine job.

Interesting book

A little creepy but very interesting.

When you finally get it, you’re sitting on the edge of the seat dying for the police to get it

Not her best work

I love her books. I am used to more twist and turns. This book didn't keep me on the edge of my seat.

Good one!

Intriguing story and plot. My kind of ending! Looked forward to each next opportunity to listen. Really like this narrator as well. On to the next installment.

Rachel Abbott has written a real thriller

Rachel Abbott has written a real thriller that kept me absorbed throughout. It’s an interesting comparison of how points of view can change drastically depending on just a few days in a young woman’s life. For those who have followed the DCI, he doesn’t play the main role this time although there’s one thrill in his life too. Recommended.

Dark and disturbing

I do like Rachel Abbot’s work and I am already used to her somehow difficult endings… sometimes they are a bit stretched but this time it is fully aligned with the dark and disturbing story. She did great with her deep diving into mind games and its consequences - however, from time to time the story meanders into unnecessary directions. Nevertheless, she writes very well and she touches on subjects that makes one think. She researches the topics in details and weaves the story around it. And as for the narrator, I am such a fan of Lisa Coleman that I would gladly listen to her reading the phone book.

Great Narration!

A well-woven story with likable—and not so likable— characters. I like how it all came together.
