Publisher's summary

Chilled is the second book in Bone Secrets, the multimillion-copy bestselling series.

As a forensic nurse on a search and rescue team, Brynn Nealey braves a dangerous blizzard to find the survivors of a plane crash in the Cascade Mountains. Joining her is Alex Kinton, a former US Marshal with self-destructive tendencies. Alex lies his way onto Brynn’s team to find the man who killed his brother - and then return the favor. But once the team members reach the plane’s wreckage, they discover everyone aboard has perished...except for the man Alex is hunting. Alex will do whatever it takes to track his target through the vast, snowy wilderness.

As the temperatures drop, however, so do Alex’s defenses. His contact with the sharp, kindhearted Brynn makes his lust for vengeance difficult to reconcile with his growing feelings for a woman who risks her life to help others. What will happen to Alex’s savage instincts when he finally has the opportunity to confront his brother’s killer?

In Chilled, the next thrilling tale in the Bone Secrets saga, Golden Heart finalist Kendra Elliot weaves an icy tale of cold nights, cold hearts, and cold-blooded killers.

Great Book Under $10

Brynn Nealey is a forensic nurse who works with a team to perform dangerus search & rescue missions in the Cascade Mountains. Following the news of a plane crash the team prepares to set out to look for survivors, unfortunately the weather is against them. Alex Kinston is a former US Marsal that lies his way onto the team, he knows exactly who was on that plane and he wants to make sure that one of the passengers does not survive. The journey into the blizzard brings more dangers to light than expected, the team must face their own fears and overcome them if they hope to survive. Finding the crash site turns out to be the easy part, what they find when they get there could change all their lives forever.

This book takes place over a few short days in freezing temperatures, more than one team member has secrets and we do not uncover them all in this trip. I hope to see some of the characters in future novels so we can get to know them a little better. Brynn was a likeable heroine, her need to help others stems from an accident in her childhood that saw her lose her best friend. Alex's backstory was the one that kept me reading, his need to find the man that did him wrong and see justice being served has influenced his life and decisions for so long, I found myself willing him to get justice so he could get the closure he needs.

Emily Sutton-Smith was fantastic with the delivery of the story

At her best Kendra Elliot writes great thrillers

Chilled is a mediocre novel in Elliot's Bone Secrets series. It is well worth the $1.99 I paid for it. Emily Sutton-Smith does an excellent job of narration.

I kept hoping it would end!

I finished it but only just. I think it's amateurish and badly written. Too much of what is important to the story -- even who the "bad guy" is -- is revealed in the characters' thoughts rather than through action, i.e. something happening. And at the same time there are long scenes with sighing, looking, touching -- certainly part of developing the story, but, perhaps, not as deserving of "action" as advancing the plot. I'm sure I've said it badly. This is a big yawner -- in spite of love at first site, plane crash, escaped mass murderer, avalanche, etc.
I was so glad when it was over and I could go on to John Sandford's latest.

Returned it!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Take a good plot, good guy vs. bad bad guy. Then add in great setting, cleaver characters and unknown upcoming events. WOW should have been great right?
Well ruin it with poor narrator, very slow pace in places, one to many helicopter crashes, names to close to the same to understand while narrating. Oh, and don't forget to include shallow characters with little depth, unrealistic events and most importantly, no buildup, no drama just plan, yeah it happened duh. returning this one.

Dissapointed in this one

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Hmm...I'm not sure. I had high hopes, as we met the hero in book 1. He seemed like a more Alpha hero. I wasn't a fan of how he lied to insert himself into the search & rescue from the get go in this story, and can't say that my opinion of his character built from there. The writing wasn't bad, I just could NOT warm up to the this hero...

What was most disappointing about Kendra Elliot’s story?

The hero...I really wanted to like him, but the more I learned about him, above and beyond the fact that he lied from the start, I really didn't like. He'd chosen his wife over his brother with special needs, and she didn't even come across as anything but cold. And how could he accidentally stab a friend & co worker? Why was he pacing & ranting w/ a letter opener anyway? In my eyes he came across borderline baddie.

Did Emily Sutton-Smith do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

She did. I liked her much better than the narrator from book 1 ~ and it's too bad I just could NOT bring myself like this book.

What character would you cut from Chilled?

Ha. Alex, the hero.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed book 1, and like the authors writing style. I just didn't like the path she took Alex down...,and that's totally my opinion, but I couldn't even finishe this one. I got tot the part where they'd dug him out of the avalanche, and to be honest? I didn't like Alex enough to stick with it. And I really wanted to! The premise was a good one...the set up was good, but that one character killed it for me.

Why I didn’t like Chilled

I don’t understand why a good story line has to be ruined by offensive language. It adds nothing to the development of a good plot. The “F” word is disgusting and vulgar. I refuse to continue listening.

Just ok not better than hidden

Storyline was s-l-o-w to develop and it was eh. Missed some parts and didn't know until I finished the book. Went back and noticed it was three whole chapters and found out i didn't miss anything at all. Kendra Elliot is very good at descriptive storytelling but enough already with the cold and the snow. I could sum up the story in three sentences...butt I won't. It's worth reading if you are OCD and just have to read the entire series. If I wasn't so obsessive compulsive I would have skipped this one. I won't spoil the storyline but I will say this: the whole story takes place outside in the cold wilderness and chilled is not a continuance of hidden, two different storylines. Good readings to you.

No action, no suspense, no romance

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I would like to see some of the reflection on the past as action scenes. I continued to read thinking it would eventually improve and grab my attention

What do you think your next listen will be?

No sure

Would you be willing to try another one of Emily Sutton-Smith’s performances?

Yes

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No, not at all. When I finished all I could think of was-why???
