Publisher's Summary

A medical miracle gave TV personality Cat Delaney more than a new heart. It gave her a second chance at life. After leaving Hollywood to host a San Antonio TV show spotlighting children with special needs, Cat fights to gain respect as a newscaster. She meets Alex Pierce, an ex-cop turned crime writer, who regards her as a woman, not as a heart patient. When fatal “accidents” begin killing the other heart recipients, Alex may – or may not – be her most important ally.

With her new world turning sinister and a mysterious stalker shadowing her every move, Cat is caught in a dark maze of betrayal and secrets…and perhaps sees too late the mask hiding a killer’s face.

Keeps you guessing to the very end.

Many books you can figure out the killer in the very beginning but this book had many twist and turns that were very unexpected. Loved it.

Not Sandra Browns best work.

I am disappointed. This is the first S.B. book that I not only figured out who the bad guy was halfway through but I also couldn't get into the story. I couldn't bond with the characters as I normally could. This book I will definitely be returning. Awful!!! Natalie Ross who narrates the book did a phenomenal job like always. She was the only highlight of a book I never got into. The only reason I finished the book was to see if I had pegged the bad guy correctly. Cat was by far the worst SB heroine out of all her books. Horrible book. Save your credit.

Who Done It

Very easy sweet story with mild anticipation as to just what's happening.....great in the fact that it held my interest to WANT to finish the book to see just exactly Who Really Did It!

Sandra Brown's best yet.

I have read most of her books and this one is her best wiork so far. watching her grow as a writer has been a previlage and a great enjoyment. The story revolves arround a heart transplantee who's life changes in a web of mistery and decit. A story worth following with all the best ingredients a writer can bring to a book: mystery, intrigue, suspense and the all encompassing romance.

Kinda confusing at beginning not clear as to who is who
Still a great book with plenty of mystery and romance.

Charade

Charade opens with a series of deadly accidents: A jealous husband murders a cheating wife; a young man drowns in a car accident, another in a motorcycle crash; an old lady falls; a man is killed in a chainsaw accident. Some of these hapless souls are the recipients of heart transplants - some are heart donors.

A beautiful soap opera star, Cat, is stricken with heart failure and after receiving a donor heart, changes her life to one of helping homeless children. The who-done-it is off and running when she determines that she, too, is a target because of her donor heart. Who’s trying to kill Cat? Why? Thus is the thrust!

Liked: There are plenty of potential bad guys, which makes this a fun guessing game throughout the story. The author does a terrific job presenting details confirming the guilt of a character, then throws a curve. The reader will enjoy some creative twists.

Didn’t Like: There is also a bit of eye-rolling - some stuff just to obviously absurd. Also, there are several gratuitous sex scenes that add nothing to the story and should have been fade-to-black. *Sigh-fast-forward.*

If you can get past some campy dialogue and wet-panty silliness, the mystery is a good one.

Sandra Brown never disappoints

Have been a fan of Sandra's for 25 years & have all her books. She always keeps you guessing, this one was no different. I probably have this in hardcover and is one of the few audiobooks I have from her. Listening is even more fun than reading her.

Romance, not mystery

This book would have been better categorized under romance, rather than mystery. I am so disappointed to have spent money on a book I do not want to even finish. I am more than half way through and can't believe I have listened to this much. This is the first book I have written a negative review for. I don't read mysteries for frequent sex scenes and teenagey romance.

Completely ruined by the ending

What did you like best about Charade? What did you like least?

The narration was brilliant - the best ever. Really brought the book to life. This was a great story totally destroyed, for me, by the final chapters

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I was irritated at the ending. The whole romance and plot was ruined for me. Difficult to say why without spoiling the plot. I think the Hero was fixated with his dead love obsessively and never got over her. His reasons for going after the heroine, and the way he did it - which was only really revealed in the last chapters, was just icky. And the neat tidying up of the "who got whose heart" storyline, by inserting another character in the final pages was just silly and an insult to the reader who had spent the entire book trying to figure out the puzzle.

Was Charade worth the listening time?

I really enjoyed listening to this book - until the final chapters. But the ending leaves a bitter taste and I will happily delete from my library.

Any additional comments?

I actually initially filled out my rating for this book at 4 stars for the story and overall (I almost never give 5 stars). This was because I was almost at the end and was enjoying it so much. Then I finished those final chapters and downgraded to one star - I was so angry at the way it ended!
