Publisher's Summary

The "Big Three" are a trio of inmates locked up in the Minnesota Security Hospital over the years, each a particularly vicious serial killer, each with his own distinct style and propensities. Everybody feels much safer knowing that they're behind bars. Except...there's a new killer on the loose. And his handiwork bears a disturbing resemblance to some of the finer points practiced by the Big Three, details that never even made the papers.

Lucas Davenport and his team quickly hone in on a possible suspect, a man named Charlie Pope, who was released from the same hospital prison a few weeks earlier, and who now seems to have cut himself free from his court-imposed ankle bracelet and disappeared. But is he really the one? And why do the Big Three look so agitated?

Brilliantly suspenseful, consistently surprising, once again, Sandford has outdone himself.

What the Critics Say

" is tough, unstoppable, white-knuckle fiction." (Publishers Weekly)
"The 17th Prey thriller is a cut above recent entries in the series....It contains supersized servings of all the elements readers have come to treasure in the series: Davenport's quirky, self-deprecating, and ironic worldview; plenty of graveyard humor; and a dynamic sense of place....An extra treat is Davenport's ongoing mental gyrations as he compiles a list of rock's 100 greatest tunes for his new I-pod." "Darker than usual"
Would you try another book from John Sandford and/or Richard Ferrone?

John Sandford and Lucas Davenport are favorites of mine. The villains in this piece seemed darker and the violence more immediate than normal. I won't read it again.

    "Another Davenport winner"

I would recommend this book highly. As always following Davenport was an adventure and the plot was fast paced and very entertaining. Richard Ferrone brings the characters to life like no one else can. I'm a forever fan for Sandford and Ferrone.

Supremebear John Sandford is a beast. I just enjoy the MN storylines. Richard Ferrone told the story great. Would like the hear a females voice for the female parts. More diversity

One of Sandford’s very best. Even though I am a fan, I was never ahead of the plot. The audio performance was excellent.

Not my favorite book so far....The "Big 3" grossed me out... I'm sure thats just me...I can stomach alot, but not the direction that this went in...I did enjoy Lucus Davenport and his music list of 100 favorite songs...that was cute and it followed through to the end...

    "Best Prey book yet! "

I have been in a Lucas Davenport frame of mind of late so, starting from the beginning, am listening to the entire series. The rock and roll list and the dark humor woven throughout the story make this one stand out in a truly great series of books. Excellent!

One of, if not the best, Davenport novels I've read to date. This story had me hooked as well as fooled on occasion, which is not easy to do.

    "Third time through this book"

This is my third time to go through this part of the prey series and I finally was able here Davenport's top 100 rock songs. this story is somewhat graphic for people who don't like explicit details on murder and or six. but for crime drama it's another great read.
