Publisher's Summary

Art critic Jeremy Grove is found dead, his face frozen in a mask of terror. His body temperature is grotesquely high; he is discovered in a room barricaded from the inside; the smell of brimstone is everywhere... and the unmistakable imprint of a claw is burned into the wall. As more bodies are discovered - their only connection the bizarre but identical manner of death - the world begins to wonder if the Devil has, in fact, come to collect his due.

Teaming with Police Officer Vincent D'Agosta (The Relic), Agent Pendergast is determined to solve this case that appears to defy everything except supernatural logic.

Prolong the suspense: listen to another Pendergast novel.

    "Not the best Pendergast book."

I really started out enjoying this book. And it was a great book ,but not on par with others in the series. The characters were strange, which I expect. The story was just mostly ridiculous. More of and Agatha Christie type template. The narrator is Scott Brick very good as usual.

    "Editing needed"

Could easily have been abridged. Many unnecessary details, extended car chases, gory details. Characters, however, although stereotypical, are interesting and amusing.

"Great premise, but not their best"

I'm not sure what possessed the authors to cast as their villain one of the most colorful characters in one of the more beloved novels of Victorian literature. It means that anyone even mildly versed in the works of Poe, Wilkie Collins, and Dickens will figure out who done it within the first two chapters. Too bad, given the highly entertaining characters.

    "Great story well read"

Title says it all! Our hero finds both love and true evil. Prendergast rules and Hayward is on the rise.

    "Fun read."

This was a fun detective novel. It was well read by Brick, who never seemed to get in the way. Lots of clues and red herrings made it fun to try and determine the murderer. There was a lot of occult elements, too, that added even more interest. I just wish that the protagonist, D'Aggosta, would have had more to do in perilous situations rather than watch Pendergast work magic all the time.

Rated R for many F-Bombs throughout.

    "Meh..."

I know I'm going outside of the majority of 5 star ratings and I have liked other books in this series very much, but I had a hard time getting into this one. I only related to two characters which is rare for me in a Preston Child book. It was a struggle to stick with it.

    "Wow! A gripping, action-packed mystery!"
If you could sum up Brimstone in three words, what would they be?

    Brilliant, thrilling storytelling

What other book might you compare Brimstone to and why?

Angels and Demons? Da Vinci code? One of those two. Both share the murder mystery thriller with heavy Italian influence. Plenty of clever symbolism, exciting chases, and unexpected twists and turns.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I like scary stuff so I loved the way the haunting, diabolical killings were described.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A fiery death awaits us all

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    It's good.

What other book might you compare Brimstone to, and why?

    Not sure I'd compare it.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Well as a fan of Scott's work this was great job. I enjoy his over the top enthusiasm and would recommend both writers for the technological style. I also tend to refund audiobooks not read by Scott - sad but true.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Stupid question
