Publisher's summary

In Wyoming, a little girl reads people’s darkest secrets by the way they fold their arms. In New York, a man sensing patterns in the stock market racks up $300 billion. In Chicago, a woman can go invisible by being where no one is looking. They’re called "brilliants," and since 1980, one percent of people have been born this way. Nick Cooper is among them; a federal agent, Cooper has gifts rendering him exceptional at hunting terrorists. His latest target may be the most dangerous man alive, a brilliant drenched in blood and intent on provoking civil war. But to catch him, Cooper will have to violate everything he believes in - and betray his own kind.

From Marcus Sakey, "a modern master of suspense" (Chicago Sun-Times) and "one of our best storytellers" (Michael Connelly), comes an adventure that’s at once breakneck thriller and shrewd social commentary; a gripping tale of a world fundamentally different and yet horrifyingly similar to our own, where being born gifted can be a terrible curse.

Written like a movie script

It's my understanding that this book may be made into a movie. If so, it won't require much editing to turn it from a book into a script. The plot is predictable, as some other reviewers have said, but if it came out as an action movie, I would definitely go see it.

Brilliant

Marcus Sakey's descriptive language is addictive. Add Luke Daniels's Stella performance and you've got audible heroin! I just learnt there is a second book... Bye

X-men meets Blade Runner meets Vince Flynn.

This is a pretty interesting take on the CIA thriller type novel. I can definitely see where governments would attempt to harness the potential of a new evolution of human. People do fear what they don't understand and other people do use that to their advantage. The story is current and the narrator, Luke Daniels, is well suited to this genre. Sprinkle a little bit of sci fi into a Vince Flynn novel and this is what you get. I enjoyed it and would listen to a second novel.

and a half... better than average sci fi

Someone told me not to be a sci fi snob and I'm not, I enjoy fantasy reading, loved the artemis fowl series as I read them to my children. I just don't enjoy the monster djour genre and ridiculous sex scenes for the sake of sex. (Whew defensive much) If it's well written I'm almost always entertained.

I enjoyed the book even though its a teany little bit derivative of xmen in my opinion, it does seem plausible. The characters were well written, the story was fast paced, there was action, humor, a little love interest, but not sickening sex scenes.

Better than expected

Well this book was long but enjoyable. It took me awhile to get through listening on my drive to work over the last two weeks. With that said the story was action packed with clever dialog backed by Luke Daniels performance.A 5 out of 5 if you like action books.
