Publisher's summary

Uncommon valor in the line of duty and unconditional devotion in the name of love are the salient qualities of the daring men and women who risk it all in the heart-pounding thrillers of New York Times best-selling author Suzanne Brockmann. Crafted with precision and power, her characters come alive with a depth of emotion few writers have achieved. Now, with Breaking Point, Brockmann breaks even further through the pack and delivers a stunning payload.

As commander of the nation's most elite FBI counterterrorism unit, agent Max Bhagat leads by hard-driving example: pushing himself to the limit and beyond, taking no excuses, and putting absolutely nothing ahead of his work. That includes his deep feelings for Gina Vitagliano, the woman who won his admiration and his heart with her courage under fire. But when the shocking news reaches him that Gina has been killed in a terrorist bombing, nothing can keep Max from making a full investigation - and retribution - his top priority.

At the scene of the attack, however, Max gets an even bigger shock. Gina is still very much alive - but facing a fate even worse than death. Along with Molly Anderson, a fellow overseas relief worker, Gina has fallen into the hands of a killer who is bent on using both women to bait a deadly trap. His quarry? Grady Morant, a.k.a. "Jones", a notorious ex - Special Forces operative turned smuggler who made some very deadly enemies in the jungles of Southeast Asia... and has been running ever since. But with Molly's life on the line, Jones is willing to forfeit his own to save the woman he loves.

Together with Max's top agent Jules Cassidy as their only backup, the unlikely allies plunge into a global hot zone of violence and corruption to make a deal with the devil. Not even Jones knows which ghosts from his past want him dead. But there's one thing he's sure of: there's very little his bloodthirsty enemies aren't willing to do.

Narrator Patrick Lawlor is EVERYTHING

Suz Brockmann is always brilliant, pulling you into her stories whether you like it or not, and the Troubleshooters series is THE best in romantic suspense. Who can resist the long-awaited love story of Max and Gina, and Jules Cassidy gets to shine as the hero we all know and love.

In my mind, however, it was the narration that made this story come alive. Melanie is excellent, she makes Gina relatable and fierce. But, Patrick Lawlor is my favorite. He makes the male characters feel like recognizable, individual friends...his Jules and Max and Jones...oh, and Gina's accent by Lawlor! I doubt I could listen to anything Brockmann without this narrative pair.

Breaking Point

Suzanne Brockmann is a wonderful storyteller that creates characters who live on in the imagination. The narrators do such an excellent job of bringing those characters to life.

The Good, Bad & Ugly

The Good: Suzanne Brockmann demonstrates a good sense of humor, which adds some lightness to help balance out some of the graphic violence. I enjoyed Jones and Molly's story, whose relationship was loving and believable, but not Max and Gina's.

The Bad: the "happily ever after ending" consisted of the Hero stating that he would continue to work 80-90 hours a week because his job was all important.. Likewise, the Heroine decides to give up going to law school so she can change diapers and sit at home waiting for her Hero to remember he had a wife and children. So not romantic!

The Ugly: I didn't like Max(45) and Gina (25) as couple, although they were both interesting and likable as individuals. I just couldn't get into a man having sex with a girl young enough to be his daughter. Icky!

Great!

This was a great ending to the Max/Gina and Grady/Molly's stories. The beginning was a little weird with the time hopping, but overall it was a great read, an excellent addition to the Troubleshooters series.

Not Suzanne Brockmann’s best!

I have enjoyed many of Suzanne Brockmann’s books but this one fell short. The story line was okay once it started to develop but it took a long time to get to that point. I started and stopped this book a number of times before I managed to get into it. The narration is not great either. The female voice is good but I found the male voice difficult to listen to and off putting.

Max and Gina finally have their adventure

Drama, Suspense, Action, Comedy, Romance - Check! This one has it all.
Jules helps Max face going to Germany to identify Gina’s body after a bombing. But it’s not her. Turns out she was kidnapped with Molly Anderson. Max, Jules, and Grady Morant aka Dave Jones join forces to track and rescue the women. Max and Gina get their HEA, along with Dave and Molly.
Jules really shines as the kickass FBI agent.
The only turn off for me is the story bopping back and forth over 3 timelines.
Lawlor does a great job of narration, but massacred some German words.
Eubank is a good complementary voice for Lawlor.

Another Great book by a Great Author

Love Suzanne Brockmann's books. A great mix of action and romance. This one didn't disappoint. Exciting, and hard to stop listening to (would have been hard to put down in the reading world).

Breaking Point

The story was good overall but I didn’t like the time jumps at all. Idk how else the author could have told the story, but I still didn’t like it. It was rather dizzy-ing, jumping around, back & forth. But that’s just my opinion. It might not bother anyone else. Plus Max was a bit of a d*ck throughout the whole series, much less in this story. I have no idea why Gina loved him. The author didn’t focus very much on his redemption, imo. I would’ve liked it if Max had softened a bit more, earlier in the story, rather than waiting till the last chapters. YMMV.
