Publisher's Summary

DI Tom Thorne is back.... When a dead body is found in a North London flat, it seems like a straightforward domestic murder - until a bloodstained sliver of X-ray is found clutched in the dead woman's fist, and it quickly becomes clear that this case is anything but ordinary. DI Thorne is dealing with one of the most twisted killers he has ever hunted.

One of the best!

I think that Thorne books are like Marmite you either love them or hate them. I love them and thoroughly enjoyed this one. Quite dark, the story left me quite sad making me realise that life's not so bad. Enjoyed the develpoment of the ongoing sub plots between Thorne, Lousie and Hendricks. As usual Paul Thornely delivers a brilliant narration with fine characterisation; although two nitpicks: why has Brigstock Thorne's boss gone from a Home Counties Accountant/Stockbroker to a DCI from Yorkshire?, and East Midlands characters sound like they come from Dudley? Overall though one of the best listens in the Thorne series - Recommended

twist in the tale

Enjoyed this overall. A couple of situations made me think of police incompetence and seemed a little contrived , others may feel differently, hence 4 stars. However, a good devious story with an unexpected twist so felt it worth listening to the end.

Gripping story very poor narration

Would you try another book written by Mark Billingham or narrated by Paul Thornley?

Book is worth reading but listening is hard work!

How could the performance have been better?

The performance needs a different reader. The narration was monotone and no character depiction. I didn't know if I was listening to the detective, his girlfriend or the antagonist.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment!!!

Not the best Tom Thorne Novel

Any additional comments?

I like the narrator despite other comments. I found the storyline wasn't as gripping as past stories and found that my mind wandered.

Absolutely dreadful

I would have liked to give this zero - narration so awful that I can't get past the first 4 minutes, avoid.

Not his normal genius

Bit disappointed by this story. Felt a bit bland. Couldn't finish it. Love the other books though.
