Publisher's summary

The ultimate secret. The ultimate agent. The President's vampire. Zach Barrows is an ambitious young White House staffer whose career takes an unexpected turn when he's partnered with Nathaniel Cade, a secret agent sworn to protect the President. But Cade is no ordinary civil servant. Bound by a special blood oath, he is a vampire. Cade battles nightmares before they can break into the daylight world of the American dream, enemies far stranger-and far more dangerous-than civilians have ever imagined. Blood Oath is the first in a series of novels featuring Nathaniel Cade-the President's vampire.

Fabulous Fun

Had a great time listening to this. I chose it on a bit of a lark but ended up really enjoying the story the and its characters, as well as Bronson Pinchot’s narration. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Great idea for books.

I really enjoyed this book. I'm going to buy the rest of the series. Bronson Pinchot does a great job narrating.

Surprising refreshing

This review is coming from a person who loathes vampires for the most part. They have become overdone, passe, and even glittery. The only reason I got this book was to extend my credits a little further in one of the two-of-one sales. I like it when an author takes a stereotype monster/character trope and spins it into something their own. While this author doesn't reinvent vampires wholly, he does put this one in a unique situation where the vampire is bound by magic and can be compelled to act on other's behalf that creates an interesting dynamic between characters not seen in other types of works. I must say I was more interested in the narrator than the author or subject. Actors to me make some of the better voice actors than narrators in that they usually add a little bit more emotion and tone or add the sigh and chuckle listed outside the quotes. I have to say this a book worth listening to if you have nothing better to choose from at the moment. I stick to mostly fantasy and space books and this wasn't that far out of the realm of what I like to listen too. There is a little drama, emotions, and angst, There is some action, discovery, and mystery, but they are along for the ride and don't drive it. The flow feels smooth and natural. It's interesting enough I will at least try the next book in the series and see how it goes. Enjoy.

I Only wish the author had continued and developed the series more. It would make a great ongoing series …and movies

Buy It

Excellent vampire book and the best part is that it's the first in a series. Another original plot and well written. Pinchot does a good job too.

Hellboy fans - an occult gov't agency tale!

If you like the premise of the graphic novel / film Hellboy, I think you'll like this novel. There are macabre forces at work in the world. Most have unfriendly intentions toward human-kind. And the United States government has secret assets to counter them. This is the story of a vampire pledged to serve the office of the president since the days of Lincoln.

Original and Excellent

I didn't think I would like this book because of how overhyped Vampires are these days. On the contrary, it was amazing! Assuming this will be a series, I can't wait until the next one comes out.

Good story but author can’t write female characters

Over all the story was interesting but you have to tolerate a clear inability to write believable women. He isn’t that good at writing men either unless everyone is John Wayne or a sniveling wretch. There is vague love throw to the NRA and really illogical punching to show manliness.

Still the underlying world building is good and has the potential for much better work in the future.
