Publisher's summary

In a masterpiece of supernatural mystery and apocalyptic prophecy, New York Times best-selling authors James Rollins and Rebecca Cantrell bring to a thunderous conclusion their epic trilogy of novels set between the worlds of shadow and light, between salvation and damnation, where the very gates of hell must be shattered to discover the true fate of humankind....

As an escalating scourge of grisly murders sweeps the globe, archaeologist Erin Granger must decipher the truth behind an immortal prophecy foretold in the Blood Gospel, a tome written by Christ and lost for centuries: The shackles of Lucifer have been loosened, and his Chalice remains lost. It will take the light of all three to forge the Chalice anew and banish him again to his eternal darkness. With the apocalypse looming, Erin must again join forces with army sergeant Jordan Stone and Father Rhun Korza to search for a treasure lost for millennia. But the prize has already fallen into the hands of their enemy--a demon named Legion, before whom even the walls of the Vatican will fall.

The search for the key to salvation will take Erin and the others across centuries and around the world, from the dusty shelves of the Vatican's secret archives to lost medieval laboratories where ancient alchemies were employed to horrific ends. All the while, they are hunted, besieged by creatures of uncanny skill and talent. Clues are dug free from ancient underground chapels and found frozen in icy mountain caverns--ones that will destroy not only her but all she loves. To protect the world, Erin must walk through the very gates of hell and face the darkest of enemies: Lucifer himself.

Great book!

James Rollins delivered a fabulous book and a fitting end to this series. I recommend it, hands down! Not a huge fan of the narrator as he is too erratic in volume (I'm always turning it up and down!), but he has a good voice and its nice to have all of the books read by the same person.

Narrator Needs Training

What would have made Blood Infernal better?

I might have enjoyed the story but couldn't get past the narration. Every other sentence ended on an up note even when the characters weren't asking questions. There was no distinction between the voices of the characters making it hard to follow or bond with any of the individual players.

I think I would probably enjoy reading this novel, but couldn't finish the audio book simply because of the narration. Maybe the narrator is new and can improve with time; however, I am sorry to write that I cannot recommend his performance for other audio books.

Oh well, better luck next time.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

No.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Christian Baskous?

Scott Thomas
Sean Mangan
Ray Porter,
D.M. Pulley
P.J. Ochlan

In other words, anyone but Mr. Baskous.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Couldn't finish it so don't know. I suppose based upon the plot and what little I did listen to it is probably a pretty good book.

James Rollins name doesn't belong on this book

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This book was written as a myth in Christian clothing. If you're into myths, maybe you'll like it more than I did. This is not a typical James Rollins action thriller fun book.

What was most disappointing about James Rollins and Rebecca Cantrell ’s story?

I found this extremely difficult to follow. It was so disappointing. I typically love James Rollins books. I look forward to the action and thrills. This book is nothing like that (I realize it's really a Rebecca Cantrell book licensing Rollins' name). I would call it a myth which could be a good thing, but it was so difficult to follow what was going on and who the characters were. It was horrible. I got three hours in and just gave up. I felt like I entered the book from the middle or something. No plot development, no character development. It was really not well done.

What didn’t you like about Christian Baskous’s performance?

A bit over the top on drama. Like a Shakespearean actor recruited for narration. And he reads super slow. Wanted to give him jolt.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment!

Captures your attention all the way through!

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, and this latest addition is no exception. From start to finish the story of Erin, Jordan, Rune and the other Sanguines will take you on a wild ride throughout Europe and Asia, past and present. Looking forward to what the future may hold!
