The telephone calls from her stepdaughter April send chills down the spine of Joe's daughter Sherry. Wasn't April murdered six years ago in a bloody massacre? starting to fray

I've enjoyed this series, but it seems it's time for Mr. Box to move on. It's nice his characters have matured, that their interpersonal relationships have evolved . . . but they're really running out of variations of plotlines. And as with so many books in this genre, the author works too hard to create conflict via unreasonable characters in positions of power. These become cliches of the bad FBI agent, the corrupt local official, unrealistically bent and wrong and self-serving, largely to make the protagonist seem a strong, reluctant, righteous hero.

I do like the landscape in these books, though, which is most likely what brings me back.

Not my most favorite

I'll keep listening, but this one was just a little boring. The plot was a little too contrived.

Love the Joe Pickett Series

I really enjoy this series and I have read/listened to several of them. I especially enjoy David Chandler as the narrator. If you really like mysteries with good story lines, characterization, etc.; let me encourage you to consider trying this series.

Exciting! Good ending.

Good story. Children are not always protected. April Keeley saved. Gangsters. Wrong and right thinking leading to wrong and right actions.

Excellent as all Joe Picket adventures.

Love how author exposes the ludicrous of controversal issues. This was no exception. Great read.

Excellent as always

Another great read. More only regret is that C.J. Box doesn't write fast enough.

CJ Box fans won't be disappointed.

What did you love best about Below Zero?

I love the geography/location and the gentle balance of politics and humanity.

Have you listened to any of David Chandler’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I would rate all his books 4-5 for the enjoyment factor alone.

Any additional comments?

Sometimes the family drama/involvement is a little distracting. I enjoy the characters but sometimes they seem to become "fillers"--a little too much bulk. I love a good mystery but just don't need the whole family in on it.

I adore Joe Pickett!

C J Box creates wonderful, complex characters that you'd love to meet (well except for Nate, he's kind of scary). He does an amazing job of winding together the threads of a story and weaving in parts of past tales that you are drawn in completely. I highly
recommend his books!
