Publisher's Summary

Everyone in the quiet Jersey Shore town of Silver Bay knows the story: on a Sunday evening in September 1991, Ramsey Miller threw a blowout block party, then murdered his beautiful wife and three-year-old daughter. But everyone is wrong. The daughter got away. Now she is nearly eighteen and tired of living in secrecy. Under the name Melanie Denison, she has spent the last fifteen years in small-town West Virginia as part of the Witness Protection Program. She has never been allowed to travel, go to a school dance, or even have internet at home. Precautions must be taken at every turn, because Ramsey Miller was never caught and might still be looking for his daughter. Yet despite strict house rules, Melanie has entered into a relationship with a young teacher at the local high school and is now ten weeks pregnant. She doesn't want her child to live in hiding as she has had to. Defying her guardians and taking matters into her own hands, Melanie returns to Silver Bay in hopes of doing what the authorities have failed to do: find her father before he finds her. Weaving in Ramsey's story in the three days leading up to the brutal crime, Before He Finds Her is a stirring novel about love and faith and fear—and how the most important things can become terribly distorted when we cling to them too fiercely.

    "Better than anticipated"

Not a bad story; much better than I anticipated.

I downloaded this book about 4 months ago and then kept putting off reading it. You have to be careful when you delay like this because the mood you were in when you got the book may be long gone by the time it comes to reading it! That was my trouble. Every time I perused my “to read” list, I skipped over it wondering why I bothered in the first place.

All this time later, I finally bit the bullet and I am not disappointed. The story was interesting, I did not see ANY of the twists coming and I was always interested to know what happens next – the perfect trifecta for appreciating a mystery.

    "Well worth your time!"

Michael Kardos not only takes the reader back and forth between different timelines, but he also tells the story through several different character's eyes. This is read by one of my favorite performers who always adds to your reading pleasure. I don't want to spoil the enjoyment of experiencing this story by saying any more, but I urge anyone who enjoys a little suspense as a story unfolds to not miss this book.

    ""Laundering Time""
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I too purchased on the daily deal and due to reviewers good comments, however this author is not for me so I stop most of the book.

Would you ever listen to anything by Michael Kardos again?

This author's style is not for me. Yes, this was a good mystery, but it was too dark along the way for me to enjoy. The pace/dialogue was too slow for me (I even used new 1.25x speed ), however, the story was good and you did want to know the ending or who dunnit or why. Good ending even though I skip most of this book.

Have you listened to any of Julia Whelan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Ms Whelan's AKA: Sophie Eastlake, Eva Kaminsky reads I have in my library. She has never been a favorite of mine, but reads authors' I have liked and hence purchased. However, this book really has shown off her improvement and style. It maybe this material that show cases her talent better as I own her previously reading romance genre.

Do you think Before He Finds Her needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes, I can see the heroine becoming a cop as she wished for herself.

"There are a lot better ways to spend your time"

It has taken me some time to write this since I prefer to comment only on Stars and Duds. This is neither. As an on-sale beach read it isn't the worst ever. It has it's mysteries, and some suspense, the writing and the reading are fine. But unfortunately, when every character in this book is faced with a decision, they make the wrong choice. By half way through I was wondering if there was a way that high schools could use it as a sort of text to warn teen-agers about the consequences of bad choices. Wrong choices and unfortunate decisions are a standard, and perhaps essential plot driver - but not by every character, every (or almost every) time. There are a lot better books out there to spend your time on.

    "Not a favorite"

The story is ok, very predictable and the men's narrative is annoying, like snooty, just not a fan

It started out a little slow, but picked up the pace and I was hooked. I liked the way this story was told, from 2 different timeline and yet, unpredictable ending.

    "Great overall"

Okay so overall the book was great and the plot was good. Some parts dragged a bit especially when they do flashbacks. Also I hate that she's pregnant I get kinda how it adds to the plot but still. Narrator was great and was wonderful at different voices

The story to be told was fluid in nature with the narrator's voice creating a very relaxing environment to just sit back and chill.
