Publisher's summary

Most careers begin with an interview and a handshake. Others require a little something more.

Meet Jake Oliver. The day will come when he's one of the best cleaners in the business, a man skilled at making bodies disappear. At the moment, however, he's a 22-year-old rookie cop, unaware his life is about to change. In a burning barn a body is found - and the fire isn't the cause of death. The detectives working the case have a pretty good idea about what went down. But Officer Oliver thinks it's something else entirely, and pursues a truth others would prefer remain hidden - others who will go to extreme lengths to keep him quiet.

Every identity has an origin. This is Quinn's.

A bit confusing

I enjoyed the book a lot. My husband, however, couldn’t follow the characters or plot. I constantly had to tell him who was who and whether they were good guys or bad. I’m sure it doesn’t help that we only listen in the car a little each day.

Potential New Series

I started with this book which was written after several other books in the Quinn series. It explains how Jonathan Quinn becomes a cleaner. If the earlier books are written as well, then I'll definitely become invested in the series. I plan to read the first book next and see where this series goes.

Although the book has some unrealistic situations typical of this genre, I found most of the book believable enough. However, I couldn't quite buy into the concept that Durrie would decide to mentor a person he was told to eliminate. The author tried to write a reasonable scenario on why he did this, but it's hard to believe that Durrie would go to such lengths in an attempt to recruit an unknown like Jake.

A Return To Form

Really enjoyable, so much so it felt short. The best JQ installment in some time. Highly recommend and oddly not a bad starting point for newcomers to the series.

A Well Done and Interesting Story

Any additional comments?

I'm pretty stingy about 5 star reviews ... However, if you like books of this genre as well as Brett Battles and his protagonist Quinn, you'll really like "Becoming Quinn". Please don't be put off by the fact that this is a prequel or rather short for an unabridged book - I think this is one of Battle's finest books.

A new series to devour!

I wasn’t sure if I would like this but about 30 minutes in I knew it was going to get interesting. Of course the reader made him come alive. I plan to dig into getting to know Quinn and his detailed mind. I think I will learn a few things along the way! Quinn's character reminds me of Orphan X , also read by Scott Brick who is one of the very best readers for audible books.

Great Listen

Great book amd great narration. I enjoy most everything I've heard and read by Brett Battles. As always- Scott Brick did a great narrating the book. Had moments where his voice made me think I was listening to an Orphan X book- but that's not a bad thing.

Great way to start the Quinn Series

Would you listen to Becoming Quinn again? Why?

Yes! I was lucky in that I started with "Becoming Quinn" and then started the series. Great background information. It is amazing how he connects it so well with the series considering it was written after many of the books

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Kept me engaged and made me wan to read the series

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

Scott Brick is consistently good. One of my favorite performers.
