Publisher's summary

From the number-one New York Times best-selling coauthor of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan novels comes an all-new explosive thriller featuring the lethal assassin known as the Gray Man....

Court Gentry was the CIA's best agent. Until the day the agency turned against him and put out a kill-on-sight order. That's when the enigmatic international assassin called the Gray Man was born - and Court has been working for himself ever since.

Now Court is back in Washington, looking for answers. He's determined to find out what happened all those years ago that made the agency turn against him. On his list to interrogate are his former partners and the men who sent him on his last mission. What he doesn't realize is that the questions that arose from that mission are still reverberating in the US intelligence community, and he's stumbled onto a secret that powerful people want kept under wraps. And now they have Court in their crosshairs.

Court Gentry is used to having people on his trail, but this time it's on US soil - the last place he wants to be. Now he'll have to find the answers to his fate while evading capture...and avoiding death.

Impressive

This is book five in the Gray Man series. I have enjoyed this series; the action is non-stop and the suspense has me sitting on the edge of my chair. Court Gentry (the grey man) was once the CIA’s best killer spy. There were twenty-five people in the dirty work unit; one by one they were killed now only Gentry is left. For five years he has been hiding, now he decides to come to Washington D.C. to find out why he is on the death list.

The top CIA bosses are running for their lives. They set trap after trap for Gentry but he escapes them. Apparently everything goes back to his last assignment code name Back Blast. Will he find out why he is on the death list or do they catch him? You will have to read the book to find out.

The book is well written and thoroughly researched. The author traveled to some 15 counties while writing this series to gain authenticity for the book. The book is long 528 pages or about 19 hours, therefore, there is time for a longer story line with more details than in prior books. The characters are interesting and the plot twists and turns with lots of action and suspense. As I was reading the book, I began to wonder if this is the end of the series or will there be a book six. Jay Snyder does an excellent job narrating this series.

Maybe the best yet?

Not going to give anything away, but if you're a fan of the Gray Man you'll enjoy this. If this is your first Gray Man novel stop right now and read/listen to the others before this one. Great job Mr. Greaney! Looking forward to seeing more.

First Audible I’ve awarded 5 stars

I loved this book and Audible! The story is engaging from the first sentence and the reader stays captured through the last. Mr. Snyder’s narration deserves more than 5 stars. I hope he is the narrator for the next book in the series, as I am about to go an order it!

It would be a mistake to not listen to this one

What did you love best about Back Blast?

Court Gentry reminds me of how I feel about the late actor David Jansen. He has a big presence but goes about it with minimal dialogue. He is a somewhat quiet super hero that can make a lot of noise. This book was very well plotted and all of the characters fit well in their roles. I listened to this one over four days because of the books length at 18 hours. When you get one this long and you are totally involved, well it deserves the highest possible rating. The listening time passes all too quickly. It is great to see the foundation is set for further adventures.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

All of the books in this series would make great movies with the right lead actor.

Any additional comments?

Hopefully the author will not keep me waiting very long for the next book in the series.

Love this series!

If you are a fan of Jack Reacher, Jack Ryan, The Nowhere Man, Alex Cross, and other books with characters of this nature, you will love the Gray Man series.
For me, it is important that not all characters are completely black, or white, as far as good and bad. I like my protagonist to have weaknesses which makes the character more lifelike. I like the antagonists to have some goodness because of the same reason
The Gray Man series embodies this idea of not everything being black-and-white, but are shades of gray.
Very good writing, with a storyline that twists and turns, and with many characters so that there are different storylines within one bock.
If you are the fence whether this is interesting to you, step off and enjoy good reading or good listening.

Not as good as previous books, too predictable

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Only if they really liked the other Gray Man books, it was too predictable.

Any additional comments?

The beginning of the book was hard to listen too, Jay sounded too canned, and fake. It took a while before his performance was relaxed and felt like other Gray Man books.Saw the plot twists coming hours before they got to them in the performance..... or reading of the book. If you don't like surprises, then you will like this book more.

Series is so good! Love it and love the narration!

I love this action packed series, and this was one of my favorite books. Glad to find out why Court was black listed. I really enjoyed this story.

As usual it was action packed and exciting. Court back into the USA to figure out what happened to get a shoot on sight placed on his head. I won't give any spoilers here, just know it was a great story.

As for the narration, it is excellent! Jay Snyder does a fantastic job, his reading voice is awesome, he reads with emotion. He does a great job on the female voices and everyone gets their own distinct voice and to top it off Court always sounds sexy.

If you haven't read this series I totally recommend it. 110%

Outstanding

Court Gentry reminds me a lot of Mitch Rapp and that's always a good thing.
