Publisher's summary

It's been two years since Jamie Carter escaped captivity and saved Charlotte Grand, the infant daughter of New York Governor Phillip Grand, becoming a national hero for foiling the kidnapping plot that incarcerated reputed mobster/entrepreneur Don Bailino - the man who abducted and raped her. As Governor Grand considers his candidacy for US president, Bailino inexplicably escapes from prison, and soon, Jamie's 15-month-old daughter, Faith - Bailino's biological child - disappears. Jamie sets off to find her and, in the process, finds an unlikely ally in Bailino, who is on the run not only from the FBI but from members of organized crime who have a score to settle. Can Jamie trust the man who once held her prisoner? Can she rely on her instincts? And can she again find the strength to save a child when, this time, that child is her own?

4/5 Stars Mob Thriller

Performance Notes:
Narrator was a good pick for the book, even if not all the transitions were completely seamless. I would def listen to him again.
Sound engineering on the book - not quite effects but synthetic treatments to simulate phone calls and the like was excellent.

Story Summary:

Don Bailino breaks out of prison to protect the woman he loves and her child, who is also his child (a consequence/result of Jaime’s rape).

Additional Comments:

Apparently, this is book 2 in a trilogy. Took me about 4 years to finish it. I typically review for a list of clean reads, so when I heard 4 fbombs in the first hour or so, I quit. But I kept it around because I felt it was well written.
Jamie’s relationship with Bailino is super weird. A touch of Stockholm Syndrome.

The conversations are natural, sometimes crude, often humorous.
Content Warnings: a lot of curse words; there’s talk about and even memories of a rape that occurred before the book opened;
The conversations between the old mafia guys are crude but hilarious.
I like that there isn’t always a magic shield on all characters. They can feel pain and even die on occasion... keeps things interesting.

Conclusion:

If you can look past crude language and a bit of violence, it’s a decent book.

Great end to the story

I loved book one in this series but had moved on to other books and forgot about book two. Until this week. It was such a joy to go back and remember these characters and see what happened to them.

Book two starts a few years after book one ends. Bailino, the would-be kidnapper and definite rapist, is in jail. Baby Bailino is a toddler. The world tilts.

This book is not for the squeamish. Many people are killed in an effort to keep Baby Bailino from harm. Still, it's a great listen and a great end to the story.

Great Listen!

Baby Bailino by Dina Santorelli pulled me in from the very beginning. I have always been intrigued by "mob" stories, so the premise of this book was instant attraction. I loved how the author wrote twists in this book, and had unlikely allies. This was my first listen by this author, and definitely not my last. Daniel Penz was fantastic bringing the characters to life with his distinguishable voices. The action in this book is non-stop, the suspense is wonderful, incredible twists, and there are some redeeming characters. I fell in love with Faith and her mother in this story. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I definitely will listen to more by this author and narrator.

Solid storyline. Excellent performance.

Good drama and story. The details help put you in the middle of the action. The narration is very good, almost like a play with multiple characters. Using your imagination, it's easy to get lost in this book and listen far longer than you planned.

It's not perfect. Both the story dialogue and narration for the the children in the story was hard to get into.

Awesome and captivating!

I found the story to be well written. Baby Grand pulled me in and I had to see where Baby Bailino was going to take me. Thrilling story from start to finish. The author really gives the insight of all the characters and brings them life in my mind. I often picture who can play the roles of these characters in a movie. It's fun to see who you think can portray the characters and the story telling made it a wonderful experience. I somehow picture Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Don Bailino and Emma Stone as Jamie Carter. Also Paolo Cataldi would be Chazz Palminteri. I highly recommend this book. Cat wait to see what happens next in baby carter!

Baby Bailino

This was a very good second book in what seems to be a triligy.I enjoyed it! Some things were hard to believe, but it is fiction. The change in narrators from the first book is baffling. Daniel Penz was good, but kept waffling between upstate NY and an English accent for Mrs Grand. It was annoying. Also, baby noises=annoying! I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.
