Publisher's Summary

Tough, smart, and struggling to stay afloat, August Snow is the embodiment of Detroit. The son of an African American father and a Mexican mother, August grew up in Detroit's Mexicantown and joined the Detroit police only to be drummed out of the force by a conspiracy of corrupt cops and politicians. But August fought back; he took on the city and got himself a $12 million wrongful dismissal settlement that left him low on friends. He has just returned to the house he grew up in after a year away and quickly learns he has many scores to settle.

It's not long before he's summoned to the palatial Grosse Point Estates home of business magnate Eleanore Paget. Powerful and manipulative, Paget wants August to investigate the increasingly unusual happenings at her private wealth management bank. But detective work is no longer August's beat, and he declines. A day later, Paget is dead of an apparent suicide - which August isn't buying for a minute. What begins as an inquiry into Eleanore Paget's death soon drags August into a rat's nest of Detroit's most dangerous criminals, from corporate embezzlers to tattooed mercenaries. From the wealthy suburbs to the near-postapocalyptic remains of the bankrupt city's factory districts, August Snow is a fast-paced tale of murder, greed, sex, economic cyber-terrorism, race, and urban decay in modern Detroit.

    "Struggled with narration"

The story was ok, but I really struggled with the narrator. He was performing something other than the book. Odd pacing, strange tones, notes of hysteria. Suggest reading this one.

"Narration for the protagonist is annoying."

The book is good. Being from Detroit, I appreciate the setting and descriptions of. However, the narrator makes August Snow sound like a pompous jerk. It was annoying most of the story, but doable.

    "Excellently narrated"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Captivating from the stand point of anti cop feeling in the US at the moment. Ex cop who sued DPD and won.

What was one of the most memorable moments of August Snow?

Mixed races for Mom and Dad. Interesting how the protagonist belong to both black and hispanic backgrounds where parents loved each other.

What does Mirron Willis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Very smooth and strong narration

Could you see August Snow being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Yes. It is the American way to have a 'shoot em up' movie with the good guys always winning.

    Any additional comments?

Excellent depiction of Detroit and it's inhabitants. Very eye opening

"Too violent for no good reason"

Simplistic plot with lots of guns and blood. I was waiting for a surprising twist in the story but it wasn't there.

    "Could have been better"

Jones didn't do his research on the details. For example, Glock handguns don't have safeties or hammers.... other small things too. I do not like Mr Willis's narration style... overly dramatic for my taste.

"The narrator has never been to Detroit"
Would you listen to another book narrated by Mirron Willis?

As someone who once lived in southeastern Michigan, the pronunciation of places in Detroit and Michigan were like fingers on a chalkboard. "Campus Martius" was pronounced two different ways..both of them wrong. "Traverse City" also pronounced wrong too. I loved his voice, but please talk to a local and get it right next time.
