Publisher's Summary

World-renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to a Swiss research facility to analyze a cryptic symbol seared into the chest of a murdered physicist. What he discovers is unimaginable: a deadly vendetta against the Catholic Church by a centuries-old underground organization, the Illuminati. Desperate to save the Vatican from a powerful time bomb, Langdon joins forces in Rome with the beautiful and mysterious scientist Vittoria Vetra. Together they embark on a frantic hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and the most secretive vault on earth, the long-forgotten Illuminati lair.

I'm a mom. I have drama in my life. I don't want books with the F-bomb, nor graphic violence. I read for fun and to bring my family together. I read for reducing stress levels. We have never had a television in our home and our children are now mid twenties to 19. We listen together and look for belly-wrenching laughter. So what is it like to live without a TV? Awesomely educational and inspirational. Each new book is a marvel.

    "Enjoyable book, enjoyable narration..."

This was a good book. I read The Da Vinci Code first, so I am doing things a bit backwards. I thought the things I "knew" would happen because of the knowledge of what happens in the next book, made this book a bit less intense. I certainly was drawn back to the book often. It was hard to get a long time to listen and at times I found the book distracting to my other work. The narration really made a good impact. I had other people "lean in" to find out what was going on. That is a good sign and an easy way to determine if the book is worthwhile.

    "Overwrought narrator a dusappointment."

I would have enjoyed this audiobook rendition if the narrator had not delivered with such over the top breathlessness at every turn. It was ridiculous to the point of being laughable. Every thought of the main charactor was spoken with such DRAMA as if we were about to hear some SHOCKING revelation. Only to find out, hey - he has a little trouble with close spaces. Or he doesn't think this could be the suspected Illuminati. Or the like. Part of it is Dan Brown's writing, but a whole lot of it is this overwrought narrator. It rather spoiled the book for me since I found myself rolling my eyes or even laughing out loud. And I don't think Brown intended for it to be funny. Disappointment.

    "Great read; loved it!"

I have not read the DiVinci code but I have seen the movie. It was very good and thought provoking. However, after listening to Angels and Demons and then seeing the movie, the book was more than thought provoking and good, it was a wonderfully written book. I see why the movie had to be the way it was but it did capture the essence of the book. If you have or haven't seen the movie listening to the book is like seeing a movie in your mind. Great book just great.

    "Harvard Professor James Bond"

A very entertaining book if you read it as a fictional chase and don't think about the science and history too much, though I have a hard time picturing a symboligist as a James Bond-type character. Highly recommended.

I have to admit that I'm a total Audible junkie. MUST have book going at all times. I may be the subject of a family intervention someday.

    "wow - awful!"

Really loved The Da Vinci Code in spite of it's flaws, but this was a major disappointment. Kind of an amateurish imitation (although I think it predates?) of the intriguing Da Vinci. Cardboard characters, awful dialogue, endless pseudo-scientific and pseudo-religious blather . . . my mind wandered, far far away. I'd leave the room and come back while it played on and find I hadn't really missed anything. Won't be finishing it.

    "True Dan Brown Form"

In true Dan Brown form you are lead through what seems an absolute impossible plot with an ending that is totally unpredictable. I loved the book and can't wait to see how the book is portrayed on the big screen. Dan Brown goes to great length with his research and knowledge of the Vatican City. Although parts of the book are beyond a believable plot in real life, I do read to be entertained and this book held my attention for all 18 hours of it. A great book and I highly recommend it.

    "Awesome!"

I loved, loved, LOVED this book. I was totally hooked into the plot and couldn't stop listen. The twists at the end kept you wondering and I have to say the narators voice for this was perfect, just enough mystery and suspense. Now I can't wait to see the movie although I know it will never be as good as the book.

    "What is with the swallowing?"

I really liked the book, even though I kind of guessed the charector in the end. It followed the same pattern as the DiVinci code except may be more "visual". It also got dirtier than it needed to be.

I enjoyed listening to the narrator until half way through when you can hear noises of shuffling papers and noisy swallowing. That became distracting.

    "Need to listen to this!!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Angels and Demons to be better than the print version?

I am very weary of listening to a book, as I love to read more. When I first listened to the book it was so different from reading. When you listen to the voice it seems to being the book alive.
The book is brilliant anyway but this way it seems your there, watching from afar!!! Xxx

What did you like best about this story?

    All of it!!

What does Richard Poe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

His voice is brilliant to listening to, it is like he wants to be the main man!!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Near the end, just wow..

    ""Angels and Demons (Unabridged)""

Dan Brown, I know of him only because I ?watched? The Da Vinci Code, I?ve not listen too nor read any of this author?s material, but I would highly recommend this book to everyone wanting to be kept on the edge of your seat, just when you think you may be ahead of the game a twist and turn of the plot continues right to the very end,the exciting plot is absolutely fascinating and keeps one riveted which certainly did not seem like eighteen hours, More please more, I was instantly immersed into the world of Cern the Vatican and of course the Illuminati.read so empathically by Richard Poe.

    "absolute rubbish"

Apologies to all the other listeners that loved this book, but a bigger collection of cliches, obvious plot twists and appalling dialogue would be hard to find. This is without doubt the worst audiobook I have downloaded. I found myself rolling my eyes, and remarking out loud to myself at the lazy writing, and sensasionalist reading style. Way too much gravitas on every line ! Complete twaddle, and not enjoyable , just annoying. Don't waste your credit !
