Publisher's summary

First he steals her mind. Then he owns her body.

Dr. Jaxon Ray has bided his time. He's watched Amber St. George from afar, plotting and calculating the best way to get her back, until he realized that the answer was simple.... Steal her mind so he can own her body. Program her to forget then reprogram her as his perfect partner. The plan is foolproof, promising everything he's ever wanted once it's executed. Money. Prestige. Her. Why? Because when you don't know that you're missing, it's not possible for you to be found. Especially when the only person you think you can trust is the one who's left you with medically induced amnesia.

Amnesia is the first installment in this dark and delicious psychological thriller duet by Kylie Hillman. If you're a fan of disturbing thrillers where nothing is as it seems and unrelenting greed is the only constant, start The Centrifuge Duet today!

Thriller, not a Romance

I think that a reader going into this book knowing that it is NOT a romance may find it more enjoyable, as you would be prepared, and would read it for what it is, A Psychological Thriller. That isn't a spoiler, as it says this right on the cover.

I went in blind, and kept waiting for the romance or Stockholm Syndrome to happen. But that isn't what this book is about. There are very similar vibes to You or Therapist, with the main male character being a sociopath. As I did the audiobook, I'm not sure if there are warnings at the beginning, but if there are, I highly recommend that you heed them if you have triggers.

The story was entertaining if you like a fairly quick thriller, but I did feel like there were bits of information that we were missing. Almost like there should have been a previous book. Part of that is due to element of suspense the author wants to portray, but I'm not sure that all of it is because of that. The ending was also a bit of a let down for me, as you are left wondering about how things will eventually end up. I'm sure this thought will be confusing but I almost wish that the last chapter didn't happen, so we were left imagining how it would go, rather than just not knowing.

Very sexy; death & drama

This drama of Jackson Ray's (aka Jax) quest for Amber St. George, at any cost, is very, very sexy. Don't listen if you have a problem with explicit sex. It's not raunchy, really, but words like fu** and pu**y are frequent enough. The sex is also not gratuitous, but it's a weapon and thus very present.
The focus of the story is not new. Stories of families wanting to join their tribes together through marriage in order to heighten their dynasties has certainly been done. But this author does an admirable job of making this trope worth listening too again.
Amber is 30, a teacher, and from a political family with parents who have wanted her to marry Jax since she was very young. Jax is 33 and from a wealthy medical family who continues it by being a neurosurgeon. He has wanted Amber since they were young and has been a willing participant in their families' efforts. He started at an early age trying brutally to force Amber to his will and their families' will. Amber tried to escape and had help. As a result, death and drama ensues as all parties work to achieve their own desires.
You have to listen to find out who wins in this book. But know that the winner in this story may not be the final winner because the story continues in a book not yet on Audible. I'm hoping it will be added.
