Publisher's summary

A glamorous cruise on a luxurious ocean liner turns deadly in the latest mystery from "Queen of Suspense" and number-one New York Times best-selling author Mary Higgins Clark.

Fleeing a disastrous and humiliating arrest of her husband-to-be on the eve of their wedding, Celia Kilbride, a gems and jewelry expert, hopes to escape from public attention by lecturing on a brand-new cruise ship - the Queen Charlotte.

Onboard she meets 86-year-old Lady Emily Haywood - "Lady Em", as she is known throughout the world. Immensely wealthy, Lady Em is the owner of a priceless emerald necklace that she intends to leave to the Smithsonian after the cruise.

Three days out to sea, Lady Em is found dead - and the necklace is missing. Is it the work of her apparently devoted assistant, Brenda Martin, or her lawyer-executor, Roger Pearson, and his wife, Yvonne, both of whom she had invited to join them on the cruise? Or is it Professor Henry Longworth, an acclaimed Shakespeare scholar who is lecturing onboard? Or Alan Davidson, a guest on the ship who is planning to spread his wife's ashes at sea? The list of suspects is large and growing. Celia, with the help of her new friends Willy and Alvirah Meehan, who are celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary, sets out to find the killer, not realizing that she has put herself in mortal danger before the ship reaches its final destination.

Never, in all her long career as a number-one best-selling suspense novelist, has Mary Higgins Clark been in better form.

Silly and Predictable

Any additional comments?

Although it is almost certain that "the man with 1,000 faces," a renowned jewel thief, is aboard the Princess Charlotte, the owner (and subsequent custodian) of a priceless emerald necklace doesn't think of securing it with the captain. And this is the basis is this inane "whodunit" and who cares.Don't waste a credit.

Loved it!

As always, another very good mystery by one of my favorite authors. I highly recommended this book and all Mary Higgins Clark books. I collect her books and reread them over time.
Jan Maxwell has a pleasant and clear voice.

A Fun Read-But Needs Research

As always, MHC, wrote a good read. Recurring characters are enjoyable, albeit unrealistic. A crime solving geriatric lottery winning couple? Also, the notion of how a man overboard situation on a luxury cruise was handled was also beyond believe and I researched. That being said, as a weekend or vacation novel, it fills the bill.

Cruising over the high seas, the body count starts

Cruising over the high seas, the body count starts I love books about cruises what fun. I especially like books that the murders start racking up on day two. Kept me guessing got confused in a couple places but I guess that was my intention. They were a lot of characters to sort through but as always, Mary makes it doable. Her stories are rich with detail and embroidered with emotion. A good read, entertaining read and when I pick up again

VERY ENJOYABLE

Loved this story. The characters were well written. The story kept you engaged the entire time. I was dissappointed that it ended too soon. Wish it was a couple of hours longer. I recommend giving it a listen.

Alvirah and Willy -- not again!

I did not pay attention that this was another Alvirah and Willy novel. It was okay and a good summer read but not a riveting novel by any stretch. It was predictable for the most part. The Queen Charlotte was elegant enough to be slightly interesting but aspects of the storty seems unbelievable like the passenger going overboard and surviving and being found by another ship. But that's what fiction is all about right.

Jan Maxwell does a good job as usual and that made listening possible.
