Agatha raisin grows on you.

Each story I cannot decide if I like Agatha or not. She is a dichotomy. As are many of the characters. It is different from other books l listen to. In the end they are overall fun stories. And I do keep going back for more. What stupid thing will she do next?

Where is Scrabble?

I'm only on chapter 3 so far. But I am wondering what the author did to Scrabble the cat from the previous book. Agatha took her home and said her other cats were fine with her. But in the next book, which is the book I'm currently listening to, she mentions taking her two cats to Fryfam with her, but no mention of the new cat, Scrabble. Am I the only one perturbed by this?

Also, and this has been from day one if the first book in the Agatha Raisin series, there are these long pauses randomly throughout the story. They really bother me. Sometimes I think there's a call coming through on my phone or something. They really should fix that in future recordings.

And the narrator could try to vary her voice between characters a bit. It can be hard to tell who is talking sometimes.

Otherwise, I love the books.

Additional comment:
Finally. at the end of the book she says Scrabble is with the cleaning lady. Thank Goodness.

The Mystery of the Disappearing Cat

What happened to the white cat that Agatha adopted in the last book? Was it murdered? Did she give it away? Poor continuity.

A very good Agatha Raisin!

I’m listening to all of the Agatha Raisins in order this summer. I haven’t cared much for the last three, but I enjoyed this one throughly. The part where James Lacey was absent most of the book did not hurt!

The characters in the new village were interesting and the murder mystery was clever enough. I always enjoy spending time with Agatha herself. (Charles, who was her companion through most of the book, was likable- not always the case with Charles!)

Penelope Keith was excellent as always. Time well spent.

Oh no!

Spoiler alert:
Ok, I always thought that Agatha and James marrying would make me happy, but now I see the elephant traps surrounding the newly married couple AND I find myself rooting for Charles! OMG! I never saw that coming. Can't wait for the next book.

Neat

Agatha seemed less petulant in this book. At least she was less silly. Her interaction with Charles was fun and provided some hilarious moments. The mystery was wrapped up neatly at the end. I enjoyed this cozy murder story.

I’ve read all of the Agatha Raisin series in years past, loved it so much, I am doing a “do-over”.

Enjoyable

I like the narrator quite a lot. I was really pleased that the author only used "trucculent" & "bear-like eyes" only 1 or 2 times in this whole book...unlike the previous books, where I am fairly certain the author was in a competition with herself to see how many times she could include those terms in one story. 🙄

The story is good...not as light as some others, but the same general ideas as the rest of the series to this point. I would love to see Agatha--an older woman--stop fawning over James Lacy though. It is off-putting to me to not see her character mature in this area, especially considering how cold & rude he is to her. I want to see someone of her position & stage in life value herself enough to stop pining for him. It is like reading about an immature middle schooler, and it is honestly not a flattering character quality on a grown woman.

I hope the author will develop these characters into something more appealing as the story goes on.

Overall, though, it is a light read that is enjoyable when I need something fairly mindless in the background.
