Feeling jilted and cross, Agatha follows a fortune-teller's advice and rents a cottage in the pretty village of Fryfam, where she hopes good fortune and true love will come chasing after her. Unfortunately, her romantic notions are soon dispelled by the strange goings-on in the village. What are those strange lights in Agatha's back garden? Who is stealing paintings and pottery? And who murdered the local squire? Agatha's nose for trouble leads her into a maelstrom of jealousy, blackmail, and dangerous liaisons....
Agatha Raisin is one of a kind! Perfect choice for a reader, too! Excellent car book.
This is mainly another great chapter I'm the adventures of Agatha Raisin with all the good stuff we've come to love.
Many readers bemoan Agatha's unending fixation with James Lacey, and this volume does not resolve that. But Agatha's belligerence and endearingly human way of being stuck in her ways and blind to some things are a part of her charm. Those bear-like eyes are getting a clearer view in the mirror, little by little. Agatha's love life and complicated personality is the long game of the series.
What's special about this volume is we are given more depth and development of some our favorite supporting characters, particularly Sir Charles. The text gives us greater insight into their understanding of Agatha and really does enliven what could otherwise be a ponderous affair.
The narration is, as always, first rate. Penelope Keith is a gem.
I Love all theses books and Narrator is simply fantastic - I can't wait to listen to the rest of them.
I love this series. I only wish that life was easier for Agatha. She needs a break. I'm hoping for good things to happen to her in future books.
What made the experience of listening to Agatha Raisin and the Fairies of Fryfam the most enjoyable?
I like Penelope Keith Agatha Raisin the most of all the narrators.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, Charles is my favorite of her boyfriends. I like Agatha, she is brash, rude, bawdy can be quite nasty at times but other times I can really relate to her and she gets away with things we can't in real life without being fired or ostracized.
I got There Goes the Bride from itunes also by Penelope Keith and just love all the Agatha Raisin books read by Penelope Keith.
What does Penelope Keith bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
she is Agatha to me and she can go between the voices with ease and I don't even notice it.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laugh and I enjoy this book. I have purchased it in January and have listened to it at least 6 times.
Any additional comments?
Agatha is comical, I love how she can get rude but M.C. Beaton doesn't have her go so far as to swear but she will give great descriptions like Agatha told the two men to perform physically impossible acts on themselves and you know what she means but the context and the situation is funny.
Her cooking attempts are hilarious. I recommend this one, There Goes the Bride, the Haunted House and the Deadly Dance are really funny.
