Publisher's Summary

Cotswolds inhabitants are used to inclement weather, but the night sky is especially foggy as Rory and Molly Devere, the new vicar and his wife, drive slowly home from a dinner party in their village of Sumpton Harcourt. They strain to see the road ahead - and then suddenly brake, screeching to a halt. Right in front of them, aglow in the headlights, a body hangs from a gnarled tree at the edge of town. Margaret Darby, an elderly spinster, has been murdered - and the villagers are bewildered as to who would commit such a crime.

Agatha Raisin rises to the occasion (a little glad for the excitement, to tell the truth, after a long run of lost cats and divorces on the books). But Sumpton Harcourt is a small and private village, she finds - a place that poses more questions than answers. And when two more murders follow the first, Agatha begins to fear for her reputation - and even her life. That the village has its own coven of witches certainly doesn't make her feel any better....

Woeful!

I have every Agatha Raisin audiobook that is narrated by Penelope Keith, and have greatly enjoyed the escapism and beautiful narration.

This book is just a mess. The once beautiful character interaction has become sour, and some personalities have completely changed. Agatha is lacklustre.

There are also so many editing errors. One example: after a conversation between Charles and Agatha regarding her having bought a car without Sat Nav, a little further on in the book Agatha is being directed by her Sat Nav. This is one of so many discrepancies. Also the main character Mrs Bloxby’s first name has changed from Margaret to Sarah!

The narrative wanders off on irrelevancies that seem to have no point, or make any sense.

I forced myself to keep reading, although I was tempted to quit so many times. Please concentrate on writing the best of Agatha Raisin without rushing - perhaps two books a year is too many. Forget the amusing but lacking TV series, and go back to the intelligent writing of Agatha Raisin’s adventures.

At the beginning of the book I wondered why Penelope Keith didn’t seem to have her heart and soul into the narration. Now I understand - imagine having to read this appalling book with gusto!

Brilliant

I have waited so long for this book to come out and I was not disappointed. I can not wait for the next one. Fantastic story which gave me several giggles and Dame Penelope Keith is just awesome to listen to.

Most Enjoyable

M C Beaton does it again. a thoroughly enjoyable read. A storey with good pace, twists and turns and the meticulous unearthing of the culprits. Agatha Raisen never disappoints.

Another good tale from M.C. Beaton.

Agatha and friends solve another murder mystery. All carried along at the usual pace with bodies and failed romances along the way. Most enjoyable. Roll on the next one, may she never age.

I love these books

I am addicted to these books. Love the Agatha character plus all the others that surround her.

There are always several murders and lots of suspects. So it keeps you guessing. Plus Agatha's love life is always interesting. She is ever optimistic but also practical.

Agatha Raisin: The Witches Tree

Here she goes again, Agatha Raisin involved in murder and mayhem, and still no love or marriage insight.

Penelope Keith excellent but pity about the story

It reads like the story is finished but MC Beaton is told she hasn't written enough words so she just adds a bit more
