Misleading heading

What disappointed you about Agatha Raisin?

Agatha Raisin, as always, was very enjoyable but at the time I am writing this review, the title of this audible book is The Wizard of Evesham and the Murderous Marriage and that is what the description said was included in this audible book but it's just The Murderous Marriage so it's very misleading. False advertising, really.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I loved the book, I don't love Audible's incorrect description about what was included.

Any additional comments?

Advertised as unabridged and it is not

This book has "unabridged" as its description and it is a dramatic rendition. While it is ok, it certainly does not qualify as unabridged in the classic sense.

Great fun hearing Agatha acted out!

This is a dramatization, but being a fan of Agatha Raisin novels, I found it quite entertaining. All of the actors are wonderful and my only complaint that it was over too soon!

Great Radio Play - Unabridged vs Abridged

Would you listen to Agatha Raisin again? Why?

Narration:
Fantastic! So enjoyable. Penelope Keith just IS Agatha Raisin, and all the other characters are so believable. Highly recommended.

Story:The radio play is (obviously) not going to be as involved as the unabridged book, but it is involved enough to be entertaining and not so involved that you have to pay strict and close attention - nice and breezy. As a radio play should be IMHO.

** Abridged VS Unabridged:

There are a lot of complaints about these being the 'Abridged' version of the books that are listed as 'Unabridged'. So, here's the skinny. Radio Plays often refer to themselves as 'Unabridged' even if the Radio Play itself is an abridged version of the book. What you are getting is an 'Unabridged Radio Play' - the whole play, but not necessarily the whole book.

A number of Radio Plays (including some of the Agatha Raisin plays) are incorrectly categorized as an Audiobook, so they are listed as Unabridged Audiobooks when they should either be listed as an Unabridged Radio Play or (minimally) an Abridged Audiobook.

Weird, yah?

** Finding the Radio Play Collections:

Audible does a TERRIBLE job in organizing them so they are very hard to find.

There are currently 5 Radio Play Collections on Audible (as of now):
- Agatha Raisin: The Quiche of Death and the Vicious Vet (Dramatisation)
- Agatha Raisin: Potted Gardener and The Walkers of Dembley (Dramatisation)
- Agatha Raisin: The Wizard Of Evesham & The Murderous Marriage
- Agatha Raisin: The Terrible Tourist and Fairies of Frylam (Dramatisation)
- Agatha Raisin: The Curious Curate & The Buried Treasure

Some are listed as just Agatha Raisin, without listing the title within the collection. No idea why.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Penelope Keith. Amazingly dry and well-delivered. Just as I imagine Agatha Raisin to be.

There is Only book 5

I am very disappointed there is only book 5. I was expecting to hear two books. This is not good I should be able to have the credit to purchase the book that was not included I am extremely disappointed. Audible says this is the fault of the publisher. I hope Audible will correct this misinformation until the publisher fixes this false advertisement

Very good book!

Penelope Keith makes it easy to follow along with this book. As usual, I very much enjoyed another Agatha Raisin mystery. I recommend her books to all mystery buffs.

Why did Agatha Raisin audiobooks changed???

I love Agatha Raisin! I listen to the stories over and over again!
Now in May 2023 I locked out of my Audible account and when I locked back in I've found TO MY HORROR that all the audiobooks stories have been changed? Why is that???
I MUCH PREFER THE previous versions!
It had so much more caracter than these!
surely Audible must give us a choice if we prefer the previous versions or this new version!
I'm really not happy with this!
Mrs Bloxby caracter has changed completely in this new version!
There was so much more humor in the previous version!

Agatha Raisin: the unlikable hero you’ll love

Agatha Raisin is selfish, rude, overbearing, impulsive, short-tempered, jealous, lies compulsively, lacks tact, & has an overwhelming need to be admired, whether for traits she possesses or deeds she has done—or not. Truth matters little to Agatha. Neither do the feelings of others. She is inexplicably besotted with her next door neighbor who, if an author set out to purposely construct the most unromantic, unappealing, least attractive (both in personality, morals, kindness, & physicality) he or she [the author] could not surpass Agatha Raisin’s next door love interest.
Serial killer Ted Bundy would be a more appealing romantic lead.

That said, there is inexplicably something compulsively binge-worthy about these stories, although they defy any of the usual reasons why.
Props to the author for realistically illustrating the sticky day to day trials of a woman’s grooming/aging

Fun cozy mystery

A fun cozy mystery with an interesting plot, likeable characters and excellent narration. Although all the characters are likeable and reasonably believable, it's difficult to believe some of the interactions between them. Still, a fun and enjoyable story.
