Publisher's summary

At thirty-two Dev is "mostly retired" from Raines Investigations, content to run operations from his sprawling Arizona home. But Dev has never been able to say no to a beautiful woman, so when Lark Delaney comes to him for help, the former U.S. Army Ranger from Wind Canyon gets back in the game. Lark is sexy, successful and dedicated to tracking down the baby girl her sister gave up for adoption. It should be a straightforward case, but it's not long before Dev uncovers a shady adoption ring and worse—the child's parents have been murdered and the little girl has been taken.

As the case grows dangerous and Lark needs him more than ever, Dev can't ignore his growing attraction for her. He also can't trust his judgment with women or the emotions he's long-since buried. But there's a chance, if he gets this right and saves Lark's niece, that he'll end up saving himself, too.

A Windy Romance

The back and forth attraction that builds between Dev and Lark. I like the fact that Lark is a strong determined woman. Self made and doesn't just drop her goals for the man of her dreams. And Dev willing to go to the wall for Lark, not trying to change her but not willing to let her off the hook about the attraction between them. The romance is hot but not overly graphic. This is a good romantic read.

Oh them Raines brothers!

Loved the action but would have been happier with more intrigue. This was strictly heads on conflict: bad guys drug runners vs. good guys security and protection hero's. But who could complain with all those maverick hunks rallying to help their friend rescue a 4 year old girl? It was only at the closing chapters that there was a little too much heart ache and gushing of unrequited love. At least for my taste. I'm now going to check this out in 3 more "Against" books. What a great way to be a critic!

PI, designer bags, and old army buddies

Dev though he was in love once before and refuses to let it happen again. He plays fast and easy with his feelings and his women. When an old army buddy recommends him to a gorgeous woman looking for her niece, Dev goes about business as usual. He will not mix business and pleasure; but once business is concluded, he will have her. Lark made a dying promise to her sister that she would locate the 4 yr. old girl the sister gave up for adoption. She only wants to make sure the little girl is happy and safe. When they find her, she is in a house full of slaughtered people. This job just got prolonged and Dev knows for sure there is no way he will be able to keep his hands off of Lark

Good

Another good audio book. This is Lark and Dev's story. Full of suspense, action, romance and sex. Jack Garrett does an amazing job of narrating.

Liked the story

I liked the first story of this series the best. I had a problem with all the thoughts about sex, after your daughter is kidnapped, and when you are battling drug lords just didn’t seem right.

Not Realistic

I get it that a story is make believe but seriously shouldn't it somewhat resemble real life. I may be way out there but if my child was abducted, the last thing on my mind would be sex and just saying for this author guess she thinks it's way more on a moms mind than finding her child. Too much between the sheets and not enough reflection of what real life might be. Less is more
