Publisher's summary

Charlotte Arkendale knew all there was to know about men. After all, she'd made a career out of steering marriage-minded women away from untrustworthy members of the opposite sex.

Yet nothing could have prepared her for Baxter St. Ives - an arresting stranger too daring, too determined, too dangerous to be her new man-of-affairs. Still, perhaps he was the perfect person to help Charlotte investigate the recent murder of one of her clients.

So she gave him a chance, never realizing that Baxter, a gifted scientist, would soon conduct a risky exploration into the alchemy of desire, with Charlotte as his subject.

But even as he sets out to seduce Charlotte, a twisted killer lies in wait, ready to part the lovers...or see them joined together forever - in death.

Abridged!!

This version is abridged, though I specifically searched for unabridged books. Background music is distracting.

Affair was awesome

I enjoyed the book I just wish it would’ve been longer and I was there was two or three more books with the two of them in it. EJ

Simple romance with dated reading style

There was enough interest in the characters and plot to keep me listening, but the narration seemed old-fashioned especially at the amorous parts...loud music would kick in and make it difficult to hear! If this was my first taste of an audio book I would have to say I wouldn't be too impressed. Simple, feel good book with the baddies truly getting their come-uppance.

Classic

Good story, passable narration. Too much music designed to intensify suspense. Sadly it distracted.

Very funny

Silly too, so leave your troublesome world behind and put your logical mind on hold and enjoy a romp.

short but sweet

I enjoyed this short book. I'm actually grateful for the length, since it never lost my interest.

Quick is always excellent

I am a fan of all works by Amanda Quick and this book certainly upheld the author's outstanding reputation for excellence. However, the music which was incorporated into the reading I found to be intrusive and disruptive to my listening experience. Others might enjoy the musical accompaniment.

Eh - so, so

Don't get me wrong, the story itself is fantastic - Amanda Quick is an excellent author (in all her categories and names). However, the narrator was not very good and the multiple muscial intros were annoying and made listening difficult. Would buy the book just to get the story again rather than listen to it one more time.

Trumpets?

Any additional comments?

The narrator did a decent job but at certain times loud music, including trumpets, invaded the scene which left it difficult to hear the narration.

The story was not that great - just so-so but maybe the unabridged version would have been better. Except I don't think I could have tolerated the trumpets in a long version.
