Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling and Edgar Award-winning author Lisa Scottoline revolutionized crime fiction when she introduced her all-female law firm of Rosato & Associates, thrilling listeners with her twisty, fast-paced plots and capturing their hearts with her cast of strong and relatable female characters. Now Bennie Rosato, Mary DiNunzio, Judy Carrier, and Anne Murphy are back with all cylinders firing in Accused.

Mary Dinuzio has just been promoted to partner and is about to take on her most unusual case yet, brought to the firm by a thirteen-year-old genius with a penchant for beekeeping. Allegra Gardner's sister Fiona was murdered six years ago, and it seemed like an open-and-shut case: the accused, Lonnie Stall, was seen fleeing the scene; his blood was on Fiona and her blood was on him; most damningly, Lonnie Stall pleaded guilty.

But Allegra believes Lonnie is innocent and has been wrongly imprisoned. The Gardner family is one of the most powerful in the country and Allegra's parents don't believe in reopening the case, so taking it on is risky. But the Rosato & Associates firm can never resist an underdog. Was justice really served all those years ago? It will take a team of unstoppable female lawyers, plus one thirteen-year-old genius, to find out.

    "Childish"

After listening a little bit I thought I had mistakenly purchased a juvenile book. The plot was thin, characters had no depth , it was just awful.
The readers use of accents for black and European characters was stereotypical and embarrassing. You might enjoy it if you are age 12-15 otherwise don’t waste your time or money

    "Great story,solid narration."

Overall great story...initially I (like Judy) found Mary's behavior ridiculous...but it smoothed out and was a great story. The narrator made a few of them sound too much like chirpy young girls but all in all was good and that beats going the other direction. Pacing was great too.

"Cartoonish narration of a juvenile plot"
Would you try another book from Lisa Scottoline and/or January LaVoy?

    definitely not

What was most disappointing about Lisa Scottoline’s story?

aside from a silly character -- or should i call it a caricature? -- the shrill and clownish narration.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

the narrator made the Italian characters even more stereotypical than they were written (which was very stereotypical0

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    irritation

"Narrator does a great job with a great story"

The narrator has a different voice for each character, and I don't mean a little different, but most were distinctly different!
The story had twists and turns, and every time I thought I had it figured out, we would twist again. Lisa Scottoline is an excellent author and has a fantastic story telling ability.

"I really enjoyed everything about this book!"

Lisa developed wonderful characters and January brought them to life! There wasn't anything I didn't enjoy about this book except that it had to end.

    Any additional comments?

I was so, so disappointed in this book, supposedly about strong professional women. Squealing silly women was all I heard. After about 10 chapters I gave up.

"I felt like I was being screamed at"

The story was not riveting, but good. While I enjoyed the family, I felt it was overdone and a bit overwhelming.

    "Irritating"

The story is so-so but what makes this book incredibly irritating is the performance. I don't, however, think this is the actress' fault. I think there's a director at the bottom of the problem. The voices used for the heroine's parents and the parents' friends are done at a volume not usually heard outside a Chuck-E-Cheese. I imagine this choice was made to convey that the characters are elderly. It makes listening to this book a minor form of torture.

    "Great story!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, espically to those who are Catholic, while it isn't a major part of the story in anyway I love Mary's parents and their friends the tony's who are pretty Catholic

What other book might you compare Accused to and why?

    John Grisham books maybe.

What does January LaVoy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She brings the Charectors to life, espically the DiNunzio's and the Tony's. As you can tell I love them.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not to much, but I normally don't react in this way.

"not really my thing but I listened anyways"

the father shouting all the time was a tad annoying, it could have been just as effective with a little less exuberance.

the religious outbursts of some people really worry me for the future of humanity. but each to their own I suppose.

story was reasonable otherwise. hence 4 stars.

listen and make your own decision.
