review of Abby Cooper series

I can recommend this series. There are seven of "Psychic Eye Mysteries" available at this time. I would give the first one or two books three stars and each book gets better with #4 being quite an improvement, and with #5, the author hits her stride finally and they are great listens (not GREAT books but good light adventures.) My one quality for a good book is that I want to continue reading or listening. Since I have listened with some enthusiasm to all of them, the author has succeeded. But I need to want potential readers. I would say the author learns to avoid some absolutely awful shortcomings as the series continues. Her dialogue is awful and the slang the characters use doesn't fit the characters apparent age or identity. [{There are times I have no idea how old the main characters are and have no idea at all where the book is set.] She can not write from a man's point of view. The relationship the main characters develops over the series is so embarrassing and predictable for the first three, I almost stopped reading. Plus the main character seems to only have developed three dimensions by the fifth book and even then, things like attractiveness and sociability seem to change abruptly. You might want to start at book four or five... at that point I can truly recommend the imperfect but interesting tales of Abby Cooper and her friends.

Good Little Cozy with a Psychic Twist

This is a good little cozy with a psychic twist. Abby Cooper is a psychic, she is also single and has been using a dating service, with one date going well at least she thought it had, but it turns out he is a cop getting a feel for her after one of her clients is killed. At first she has no interest in working with the police but when she realizes that this girl called her and asked for a second reading and Abby blew her off. Now she is feeling guilty and wondering if she would have been more available would this girl still be alive?

This was a good start to this series it has the beginnings of what may turn out to be a romance, a murder mystery and some humor. Which always makes for a good cozy, what makes this one different is the psychic twist, she gets these intuitive vibes about people and sometimes straight out here’s what’s going to happen but that only seems to be if someone is going on vacation not if they are going to be murdered or is a murderer. Her psychic intuition does seem to be a hit and miss but that makes it fun because she doesn’t always know immediately what is going to happen.

I enjoyed this book and will continue on with this series. I listened to this on audio narrated by Elizabeth Michaels who reminded me of a cross between Barbara Rosenblat & Lorelei King.

Funny and Light

This surprised me, although it reminded me a bit of Sue Grafton's Novels this book definitely had a deeper plot going for it. The author kept it light enough that I could still enjoy some of the Quirky things Abby did, she certainly is the most cranky person I can remember when starting a relationship with someone, but other then wondered what purpose her crabby attitude served I was pretty good.

Story was a "page turner "

I didn't want to stop listening. The narrator at times had a weird way of talking.

Liked the story, couldn't connect with the reader

Would you try another book from Victoria Laurie and/or Elizabeth Michaels?

I think this could have been a great audio book, but the reader was odd. Cute story and with a different reader I would continue with the series.

Interesting & classy

I am grateful to the author for writing with class for those of us who prefer a more PG style. I simply prefer to keep positive thoughts and images in my mind.

The premise of an unassuming, likable psychic intuitive, Abby, reluctantly getting involved in detective work with the police is an interesting one. The author provided details about Abby's process that seemed genuine and believable. I really enjoyed spending time in Abby's world.

I had only one major problem, which was that some of the speech patterns and references seemed to be that of a woman in her 40s rather than 30s. Additionally, the narrator's voice was seasoned and rich so I could only picture a woman in her 40s or 50s. therefore I had a constant fight going on in trying to imagine this voice as that of athe 31-year-old abby. I only include this information in The hopes that those who select the narrators will be more sensitive so listeners can have a better more fulfilling and immersive experience.

Average

I thought that the character had a lot of potential, but it didn't develop in the story. Undecided if I will try another in the series. The reader was ok but not great.

Contains some Romance, some violence and no course language.
The narrator gives each character has their own unique voice.
This book doesn’t end up on a cliffhanger, it can stand alone.
