Publisher's summary

It's not how long you'll live....

Now that professional assassin Victor is indentured to British Intelligence, he is tasked with eliminating the worst of the worst. One such man is Milan Rados, a former Serbian paramilitary commander wanted for war crimes and now head of an organized criminal network in Belgrade. He has escaped justice once already, so it's Victor's job to take the justice to him.

It's how soon they'll die.

Victor might be the best in the business, but with powerful friends and an entire crew to protect him, Rados is a hard man to corner and even harder to kill. To get close to his target, Victor will need more than his deadly skills. An unlikely ally can provide him with the edge he seeks, but there's a price on Victor's head - and a killer who won't quit knows just how to find him....

Narrator Smacks

Is he eating during the narration? Love the voice, but the smacking is distracting/annoying/gross.

Book is great, and is what you’d expect a VTA book to be. It’s not as good as the last one in the series (how’d I end up listening to these in reverse order??), but worth a credit.

Another Great Victor story

Victor is a perfect character for his line of work. I enjoy the series very much and this book is an excellent example. I like the way Victor thinks and how he finds his way though the odds are against him. Also Rob Shapiro is the perfect narrator for these books.
Keep the Victor story alive Mr Wood and thank you for this series!

Another first class novel

Tom Wood: as difficult as it must be,
you are a master of words, emotion and human feelings! May your pen never run dry.
Victor is the most complex character ever put to paper. His thought process is complete and not wanting of opinion.

Wow

Vic is one bad dude. Excellent story. Really difficult to put down. Vic’s sense of right and wrong is certainly interesting. Great narrator as well. Would make a great Netflix series.

A good ‘Viktor the Assassin’ book

I like the main character and the story line was good. Minimal to no profanity and no sex scenes reflect very favorably for me make this series high on my list. No gruesome overly graphic descriptions were also a big plus. The MC’s moral code, even as an assassin, make him ‘likable’. I will continue to read this series.

Love this Series

What did you love best about A Time to Die?

I just love Victor. I remember passing over the first book in the series several times because I'm not big on assassin novels. They tend to be all bang and no substance. That isn't the case with these novels and I continue to love how complicated Victor is. He's a professional killer and he has no delusions about his profession or what it means about him. He's all about self-preservation but at the same time, he isn't without compassion. He's still human, just hardened and constantly on guard. He does things that will likely be very distasteful to the reader (outside of his job) but that are understandable, given his background. He's just a fabulous take on an old trope.

What other book might you compare A Time to Die to and why?

This book, and the series in general, reminds me a bit of Orphan X by Gregg Hurwitz. They're not the same book(s) in anyway except for the main characters being professional killers, but there's something about Smoak that reminds me of Victor, and vice versa. They have similar principles, even if they're demonstrated differently.

What does Rob Shapiro bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Oh, Rob Shapiro. I love him. His voice is perfect for Victor. I don't know that I would have even given the novel a try if his reading in the sample wasn't so engrossing.

Any additional comments?

Read this book. You won't regret it.
