Welcome to Battlefield America

When murderous bands of militiamen begin roaming the western United States and attacking government agencies, it will take a dedicated group of the nation's finest and toughest civilian airmen to put an end to the homegrown insurgency. U.S. Air Force Lieutenant-General Patrick McLanahan vows to take to the skies to join the fight, but when his son, Bradley, also signs up, they find themselves caught in a deadly game against a shadowy opponent.

With A Time for Patriots, the New York Times bestselling master of the modern thriller Dale Brown brings the battle home to explore a terrifying possibility - the collapse of the American Republic.

Finally back to what we expect from Dale Brown.

I think that my headline says it all. I'd all but given up on Dale Brown, but A Time For Patriots has brought back my faith in him. Worth a read or a listen, enjoyable story.

Did Dale Brown see the future of Ukraine, Putin s Russia in the 2015-2022 timeframe?

Military techno-thrillerand solid wrting from Dake Brown? A given. But this series goes beyond all of that and seems to overlay recent history in a vlood-chilling way. Don't miss any of this...and join me in blood chilling wonder.

Great story...as always.

Great story with use of CID's again . I also like the story containing Civil Air Patrol (CAP).

End of the Line, General!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It is always good to visit with old friends, even when they have fallen on hard times. Overall, it was a good time, but I was concerned to see some of my friends acting completely criminal, on American soil. It was entirely too frivolous and out of character.

Would you be willing to try another book from Dale Brown? Why or why not?

Always willing and eager. Dale Brown is great writer and is always believable.

Have you listened to any of William Dufris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

William Dufris is always excellent. he has his characters down cold and keeps them consistent from book to book. I narrate Audiobooks and this is one of the harder things to do.His timing and intensity are always spot on for the pace of the book he is reading. With Dale Brown, he keeps it tense and dramatic, where it is needed. On books, like Harry Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat, he is perfectly over the top.I have made a special effort to select Audiobooks that he has narrated, even if they are new to me.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Not this one. This book does not showcase all of the best reasons for why I love this series.

Any additional comments?

It is sad to see (or hear) characters departing from their values for less than stellar reasons, and for well-established characters to be eliminated by less than world-class villains.

A good first experience with Dale Brown

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is my first time experiencing Mr. Brown's work but I must say it probably won't be my last. I really enjoyed the story and the characters and would like to continue to follow them. Some of the plot twists were a little telegraphed but not so much so that they hindered my enjoyment of the story.

What does William Dufris bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr. Dufris did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life. I would listen to another tale narrated by him.

Disappointment

What would have made A Time for Patriots better?

A more realistic story line

Would you ever listen to anything by Dale Brown again?

No

How could the performance have been better?

The narration could have been for a valley girl type story

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Extreme disappointment

Any additional comments?

certainly not worth the price paid, even as deeply discounted as it was.

Too far fetched for me

All of storyline, characters and events are pure fantasy- including descriptions of military equipment, etc. I couldn’t get past the second hour.

One of the worst I have listened to

What would have made A Time for Patriots better?

This is a combination of a boys book about the Civil Air Patrol and some convoluted anarchist plot. It died not hang together at all.

What could Dale Brown have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Rewrite the plot in a more believable format.

What didn’t you like about William Dufris’s performance?

All of his voices sounded like disgruntled teenagers, even the older ones. The rancher's voice was just lame. The boy sounded like he was 12 not 18.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from A Time for Patriots?

All the technical stuff about the CAP. I think he should have scrapped the whole thing and started over.

Any additional comments?

I have read several of Dan Brown's novels and found them to be, at least, entertaining, although I have never rated him as high as Baldacci or some others. This one, however was forgettable and just plain dumb.

boring

Seems this book was written for someone who does some flying. There is more info about planes and jets than substance to the story. It started out fine but too much time is spent with the characters discussing their flight training and past flight experiences. The story gets lost.
