Mystery and clean language all rolled into one.

I love Mindy Starns Clark books.
Although I do like Ruth Ann Phimister as a narrator her voice is too old for the main characters of this book. For me it takes away from the story. The character seems much younger than Miss RuthAnn P. Portrays her.

Great mystery!

There were so many twists and turns in this story that I can't believe the author pulled it off! Great job! I'm really enjoying this series and am getting used to the narrator. I just hope she doesn't have to do any more Spanish names, in the next book ... I would bet that she pronounces the popular Mexican dish 'ONchiladas', too. The "E" never changes it's sound in the Spanish language. it is always "eh" ... never "ay" or "ah". So, Pepe is PehPeh, not PayPay. and it is ENrique, not ONrique, which she finally changed more than halfway through the book
As many of the comments mentioned, this audio has some glitches, but they did not detract from the story.
I eagerly look forward to hearing the next book in this series.

Good book, bad narration

I really do love this series. It just bothers me I have to listen to Ruth Ann Phimister. Between her constant lip wetting and failed accents, it's almost unbearable. And if your narration calls for singing, please only do it if you can actually sing!

Loved the book but the audio kept skipping

The book was fabulous as all of Mindy Clark’s books have been, however, the audio skipped words so many times throughout the book I became extremely frustrated. If they can’t correct the audio skips, I’m not sure I would get the book via audible. I I believe I would purchase it to read instead

Interesting, mystery, CLEAN.

It is so hard to find literature that is clean - no cursing, no sex, no spiritism, scorcery or magic - what a pleasant novel to read!!! I also love Ruth Ann Phimister's voice. Her tone, inflection and rhythm is delightful to listen to. It's ok that it is in a mature range. It didn't fit with the reference to being able to have "children in the future" conversation with her former mother in law. Other than that, this part could have been left completely out and still be a story about an older women falling in love with an older man while working as an investigator. I loved it and looking forward to more novels by Mindy and narration by Ruth Ann.

Very Good, but...

... I deducted two stars because this is the third book in this series that I've had to hear her talk about Brian and her healing process. I am so tired of hearing about Brian.

The reader ruins the series for me

I very much like the writing. BUT I just cannot listen to this reader. The voice not only doesn’t match the age of the main character, but the quirks are so distracting I can’t lose myself in the book. I bought the entire series but am stopping on this one. Can’t stand it.

Didn't care for narrator in this particular series

The narrator's voice is more suited to Dearest Dorothy, and the Southern Sisters mystery series as both have elderly main characters. She does a great job with them but her voice is much too weak and trembly for the character of young Callie Webber. I think Ruth had sinus issues because many times her sniffles could be heard which was distracting. This book also had many places where the audio skipped and I totally missed what was being said which also detracted from the book. But I still enjoyed the book as the storyline was great.

I love this series but listening…

Unfortunately the narrator left a lot to be desired. I’ve read this series more than once and recommend it. But listening to this narrator (through earbuds) was hard. It maybe less noticeable listening through computer or maybe car speakers but her smacking of her lips and the noise that sounds like she is chewing gum right in your ear is very difficult. I wish this would be re-recorded with a new voice.
