Publisher's summary

The game is afoot as Charlotte Holmes returns in USA Today best-selling author Sherry Thomas' Victorian-set Lady Sherlock series.

Being shunned by society gives Charlotte Holmes the time and freedom to put her extraordinary powers of deduction to good use. As "Sherlock Holmes, consulting detective", aided by the capable Mrs. Watson, she has had great success helping with all manner of inquiries, but she is not prepared for the new client who arrives at her Upper Baker Street office.

Lady Ingram, wife of Charlotte's dear friend and benefactor, wants Sherlock Holmes to find her first love, who failed to show up at their annual rendezvous. Matters of loyalty and discretion aside, the case becomes even more personal for Charlotte as the missing man is none other than Myron Finch, her illegitimate half-brother.

In the meanwhile, Charlotte wrestles with a surprising proposal of marriage, a mysterious stranger woos her sister Livia, and an unidentified body surfaces where least expected. Charlotte's investigative prowess is challenged as never before: Can she find her brother in time - or will he, too, end up as a nameless corpse somewhere in the belly of London?

Critic reviews

"The second in the Lady Sherlock series is a delight, especially as performed by the extraordinary Kate Reading.... Reading doesn't miss the story's subtlety. Her voice slides over innuendo into sarcasm, smoothly capturing Thomas's sparkling wit.... Brilliant listening." (AudioFile)

Where’s the third???

I have always been a huge Sherlock fan, and now this combines one of my favorite books with female empowerment. Wonderfully adapted, I cannot wait for the third.

Unapologtic heroine!

I was a bit skeptical when I read the first book in this series, but grew to love Charlotte Holmes. It's tough being a woman in Victorian Britain, but she does her best to live life on her terms, by outwitting, outcharming, and just plain outthinking her detractors. This female twist on Sherlock Holmes is brilliant, with matched mysteries and crimes to solve worthy of a great intellect. The way Thomas weaves in elements and characters from the Sherlock Holmes books into this series is masterful and equally intriguing. I found Kate Reading's narration a bit too monotone for all of the characters. For Charlotte, I thought she was perfect, but many of the other characters sounded like Charlotte. In spite of the narration, I look forward to another read in this series and the next buck at tradition that Charlotte offers up! #AmateurDetective #Clever #Provocative #FemaleProtagonist #Victorian England #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Lovely

A lovely Sherlock Holmes inspired mistery, with twists and turns and impossible romance. Wonderfully narrated.

Perfectly satisfying second chapter of a series

I know, "Lady Sherlock" sounds dumb. Just don't look at the cover. She's never called that in the book. This is an entirely brilliant take on the question,"What if Sherlock Holmes was a woman?" Read the first book in the series - it's not necessary, but you'll thank me.

Charlotte Holmes is for sure coded as a character on the Autism spectrum - she's a badass hero repping all of us ladies on the spectrum and I appreciate the sensitive portrayal. But she isn't what you'd expect, and that's a delicious addition. A touch of romance for spice, but nothing over the top. If you enjoy Holmes pastiches, this one will be an original and interesting addition to your reading material.

Excellent Narration

I throughly enjoy listening to Kate. Her narration is flawless. Even her male voices are perfect. Some narrators have trouble with making their opposite genders sound authentic but Kate has no issues with this.
The storyline is a bit confusing, I find I have to be paying close attention or become lost.
This is not a significant issue though, as this is my second purchase in the series and I will be purchasing more.
A true delight.

What a great follow up to Scarlet Women

I loved this book and the continuation of Holmes and Watson’s relationship. Each character adds additional depth to the story and I am looking forward to the third book.

So glad its included in Audible plus

I read the first one because im waiting for my credit to come up so I can get something from my wishlist.

While I am really enjoying it- I probably wouldnt have bought it- but its making me feel like want to keep subscribing instead of just buying audiobooks outright
Kate Reading is wonderful and I likes the characters more than the mystery. The second one takes place days after the first one. It fleshes out t Lady Sherlock better I think and was entertaining. I like listening to it while I do other things.
