Disappointing..

Jack Reacher is my favorite book character. Lee Child is my favorite author. Dick Hill is my idol-I will read anything he narrates. That said, I eagerly awaited the arrival of the new Lee child book. It is the first time I have ever been disappointed in a Reacher book.
61 Hours is my first disappointment. The title itself led me to believe something exciting/horrific was going to occur soon in the story. The countdown began in the beginning and kept on through out the book to build the suspense. I kept waiting for the book to get going but it never left the ground. There were no surprises. It tried to hard to build non-existent suspense. Much of the story didn't make sense. Characters who were supposedly integral to ghe story were never developed to the point where I cared who they were. Jack Reacher did pretty much nothing the entire book except talk to an old woman and act as advisor to some small town cops. As the focal point, I always count on Jack Reacher for plenty of-action, humor, suspense, interesting entanglements, etc. This book portrayed Reacher as almost the shell of a man he once was. He gets off a bus and ends up staying to "help" these small town cops with the "BIG" mystery. But there is no suspense.I kept waiting for the excitement and it never came. Throughout the book I just wanted it to end. Even Dick Hill couldn't save this and he can save practically anything. Insipid plot, uninteresting characters, predictable ending. I can't believe Lee Child wrote this book. It is so out of character for him. Mr. Child I hope you will bring Jack Reacher back in your next novel. I sorely missed him in this one.

Cliffhanger was disappointing

I like Jack Reacher books and sometimes I like cliffhangers. This time I feel like I invested a lot of time into the book, only to get a stupid cliffhanger ending. I recommending waiting to listen to this book until Part 2 is available this fall.

Not happy

I'll start by saying that I love the Reacher books and have read a couple of them more than once. This one is terrible. Dick Hill is superb, as usual but Lee Child is not. This one is so full of endless description of everything except action that I found myself dozing off more than once. I figured out the "mystery" way before Reacher did and I hate when that happens. I'm sure that die hard fans like myself will discount this review and buy it anyway and I'm not trying to discourage you from doing that. I'm just saying that much of what I love about the series (action) is not present in this one. Don't even get me started on the ending...

Make sure you have time before you start

Although the last two books by Child were under average, he's made a fair comeback with 61 hours. In my case, I don't describe his books as fast-paced, but I cannot put them down either. This one is no exception in that I finished it in two days. Well written and plausible in its own way, a little predictable although I miss more clues than Reacher of course. All in all I recommend it to everyone, especially his followers: you won't be disappointed.

Very Disappointing

I could not wait to listen to a new Reacher book, and was counting the minutes until I was able to begin. I am not sure which was more of a waste of time, the anticipation I had built up waiting on this book or the time I wasted listening to it.

This book was a let down in many areas. Many of the things Reacher did were unbelievable, even for him. There were characters inserted here and there that didn't really fit and made the plot seem even more silly.

Even Dick Hill was unable to save Reacher. While it does seem he made a noble attempt, it was not possible. It made him sound even more preposterous.

What a wase of money and time!

Where is Reacher?

This is my favorite series. However, this installment is full of holes. There is no way the "real" Reacher would not have figured this one out earlier. There was no mystery and, for the plot to work, Lee Child had to add too many unbelievable, nonsensical facts to this story. Still, it is an enjoyable listen, but a disappointment for a Reacher book. Lee -- you have us at hello -- no need for cliffhangers.
I hope the next installment will make more sense, and that Reacher will be as sharp against the Russian as he usually is, and as he was, in this book, while helping Amanda.

One of my favorite Reacher books in a few years

Reacher catches a ride on a tour bus, which crashes in a snowstorm outside a small town. The snow keeps falling, and the town is cut off from the outside world... of course you know what happens next. The story really does take place over only 61 hours, which keeps the action tight. Excellent return to classic reacher form.

Time for Reacher to Fade (**Spoilers**)

I loved the earlier Reacher novels and hope for the experience of reading a Reacher novel as good as The Killing Floor once again. It's not going to happen though, that's clear. Child seems to be getting sloppier and lazier with the plot elements with each passing book. In this book, our hero Reacher is a total stumblebum. He ponders inconsequentials (such as the derivation of several idiomatic expressions) and yet fails when he is needed (defending an elderly librarian!). The conclusion leaves us hanging...did Reacher miraculously survive a disaster that would stretch the credulity of a 5-year to believe he could be alive, or did he perish. For everyone's sake, let's hope it's the latter and that Child focuses his energy on a new hero. Maybe then, we'll get another Killing Floor.

I surely hope this wasn't the end

I looked forward to the arrival of this book for a long time. I wasn't disappointed at all; hard driving Jack None Reacher puts it all on the line once again. Therefore, I will wait to see where Reacher pops-up next.

Disappointing Ending

I am a huge Jack Reacher fan and always will be. I am disappointed with Mr. Hill's decision to end the story in the manner in which he did. However, it doesn't take away from an exciting and provocative story - it just seemed a bit abrupt and hanging.
