Publisher's summary

A perverse young woman turns twenty-one and assumes a position of authority in her family's company.

Excerpts:

I'm Kara King, age 20, almost 21. My dad is Kevin King, CEO of Cole Corporation. My step-mom is an active socialite, my brother Kyle is in the military, Black-Ops. My birth-mom died when I was two, her maiden name Cole. Grandpa Cole founded the company.

When I got home the morning after my encounter with Willy, there were multiple police cars arriving at the family mansion.

“What happened, Dad?”

“Your step-brother fell to his death from the attic balcony.”

I had always wanted to be rid of their entire family, but this sounded too good to be true, as well as suspicious. I made a beeline for the surveillance system and removed the memory card before the police could. When I inserted it into my computer for playback, what I saw was tantalizing.

His sister Lesa had pushed him off! I promptly shared this special intel with my brother. The girl had the image of a delicate fresh spring flower. She generally dressed in white as if to imply a sense of purity.

“This is like blackmail.”

“This is exactly blackmail!”

Those three targets you took out on the pier with your rifle were at 300 yards. You nailed all three. You're a goddamn shooting prodigy, Miss King. I want to send you in for sniper training. Okay with you?”

“Sir, yes sir. Count me in. Happy to help anytime. I'm a goddamn patriot, sir!”

.....

The comm chatter picked up. They were following a van. I could see it through my thermal scope. The vehicle stopped and multiple figures could be seen heading into an adjacent warehouse.

“POTUS in position three,” called out one of the spotters.

“I can't get the shot,” responded someone else. I determined it must have been the main shooter. “We're losing our window of opportunity!”

I held up my finger to check the wind.

“Let's do this, Murdock.”

I squeezed off a round. BANG. I knew a bullet travels 2600 feet per second. I estimated the van to be two miles away. That meant two seconds per mile for it to get there, four seconds total. I counted them off to see if the first shot was accurate.

One body fell. I couldn't afford to wait that long again, they would scatter, but took enough time to hold my breath and slowly squeeze the trigger for each subsequent shot.

I fired five more rounds in succession; bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. As I watched the bodies drop, I hoped the guy had been right about POTUS being #3. I had assumed he was. The old saying came to mind about it never being safe to assume.

“Kara, can you be in two places a thousand miles apart at the same time? That was three days ago. Yesterday you two were five hundred miles apart. I set an alert in case there's another hit on the surveillance program. The photo at a toll booth shows her driving a jeep and wearing a bandanna.”

“Cool, show me! At least it's not a Dodge Dart. She sounds hip, looks to be a hip chic. Would it be vain of me to say she's cute?”

PING

“What was that?”

“The alert. Our mystery woman is at the front gate of this Campground. Life can be stranger than fiction. The U.S. National Park Service camera links into the national grid.”

“Surreal. Can't be a coincidence. She's got to be tracking me with your same software. I did submit a DNA sample recently. Maybe that triggered something. What do I say to her?”

“Dunno, but you'd better figure it out quick. I just saw her jeep go by on the gravel crossroad headed toward the lake. She's going to find you in like two minutes."
