Publisher's Summary

What was I thinking letting my ex-husband, Jake live with me...and my new husband?

Things have been great with my new husband, Kyle. Until I accidentally say Jake’s name during the worst possible time. Okay...it’s more like I moan his name at the wrong time. And now Kyle thinks I still have feelings for my ex. Did I mention that Kyle and Jake are best friends?

Of course I care about my strong and sexy ex, Jake. He’s a huge part of my life. But how could I still be in love with him after what he did? Especially since Kyle is so sweet and secure.

I have to admit, things with Jake and I weren't always so bad. Maybe you can help me figure it out. What do you think? Do you want to hear how I got myself into this mess?

My Two Husbands is a love triangle dramady told in an alternating timeline. You’ll discover how Natalie’s past rivals her present. And in the end, you’ll get to choose which husband is her best match. If you love humor, heat, and piña coladas, then you’ll absolutely adore Natalie, Kyle, and Jake’s story.

Not LOL but still an enjoyable listen

I was originally drawn to My Two Husbands solely on narrator Erin Mallon then by the blurp. I mean who would be crazy enough to live with their husband and ex-husband?! Amanda Aksel is a new to me author and she does a good job of writing a romance with an unconventional love triangle between two best friends, Kyle and Jack and Natalie.

First I have to wonder why My Two Husbands is marketed as “A Laugh Out Loud Romantic Comedy”, I didn’t once find myself LOL while listening. Sure there was humor, but while I was getting into the lives of this trio I didn’t find their situation funny. I knew at least one if not all of them would get hurt once it was all over.

We get flashbacks in parts of the chapters (or episodes, I wonder if this story was originally released in parts) labeled “Then” to show us the history of the relationships between Natalie and both guys. She met Kyle first but Jack is the one she has instant-a-lust with which turned into love and marriage. After their marriage fell apart, Natalie and Kyle’s friendship blossomed into romantic love.

With the three living together there was the ever-presence of Jack and in order for the trio to move on something had to change. My Two Husbands follows the ins and outs of friendship and marriage.

Erin Mallon delivers outstanding performance for all three characters. She does an amazing job switching from female to male characters. In my opinion, it is hard to find a narrator who can easily do the opposite sex without sounding forced and because Erin can do this perfectly is a favorite of mine and I look for titles narrated by her and it’s helped me find some new to my authors like Amanda Aksel.

My Two Husbands ends with two different HEAs. The listener is given the opportunity to skip the next to last chapter if you are not “team Jack” to hear Kyle and Natalie’s HEA. I fell into “team Kyle” but I listened to both of the endings. For me, Natalie and Kyle’s HEA made the most sense and felt right for the two characters. I invite you to listen to My Two Husbands and find out what “team” you are.

I don’t know how laugh out loud it is

The book is ok. It just was much more serious than I thought it would be. Erin Mallon was great, but neither Jake or Kyle was that amazing—- although I had a clear favorite. I don’t think I laughed out loud once.

I think I would have liked it more had it not been sold as a comedy. It is a cutesy story with a serious edge. I mean there’s no happy ending here. 2 best friends one girl. The way this is done it isn’t funny.

Jake or Kyle?

My two husbands is a not only a comedy, but a romance that left me wondering which team I really wanted! Natalie met Jake while on her first date with Kyle. These two best friends are total opposites, and Natalie found herself drawn to Jake. After falling for him, marrying and divorce, she found herself in love with Kyle. Now married with Jake living in her house, this unconventional story lets us take a walk through their lives, with flashbacks to what has happened to the uncertainty of where they will end up! It's funny, frustrating, sad, and loving all in one book. The problem is, when it comes down to choosing just one, I really had a problem! I loved both Kyle and Jake! Amanda Aksel has a real talent for romcom and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next.

There is nothing I can say about Erin Mallon that has not already been said. She is a talent beyond compare, I have listened to her in all romance sub genres, but I think comedy is my favorite. She has a timing that is perfect and leaves me smiling long after the joke is over. Her voices are always fitting to the character, and I just find her narrations like coming home. This was a perfect book for her.

My Husband's Best Friend Is My Ex Had Me Curious

Call it curiosity for why I picked this one up. I didn't look at the blurb and only knew the fabulous narrator Erin Mallon was doing the audio on this one. It was that title. Two husbands? Laugh out loud? That caught my attention and I had to click it on and give it a listen.

My Two Husbands is a standalone and went along rather swiftly. Yes, I listen at 1.5 speed, but also because the story wasn't that long. It took me by surprise and I ended up listening to a large chunk of it in one session. I was expecting to laugh a lot and I did in places, but the book ended up not being a simple fluffy comedy.

The gist of it is Natalie is now married to her ex-husband's best friend who had first crack at her and lost her after the first date, but was around when things got bad in her marriage and was there with her to pick up the pieces. Oh, and her Ex is living in the apartment above their garage and is still her husband's best friend. Is it weird that they all get along? she wonders and doesn't think so, knowing what lots of people are imagining about this arrangement. Then she had to go and say the wrong man's name in an intimate moment with her husband right after her ex announces he's got a new job and is ready to move out. Now, its awkward. Natalie has some soul-searching to do.

The author's writing was light and wry. There was a fun and flirty feel to it that made it easy to listen. It's not a deep story, but engaging nonetheless. It had a couple features in the story structure. One was that the story was told with short flashbacks between the current timeline scenes to bring the reader up to speed on how things got where they did. But, its something of a choose your own adventure ending where the reader got to decide the outcome because there is an alternate ending after the first one. That was different and took me by surprise.

Yeah, this turned into a story that unsettled me more than a light romcom should and I think the alternate ending was one of the big culprits. I might have done better with the love triangle trope, though its never been a favorite, if the story had committed to one direction or the other.
After some thought, I've concluded that like and dislike for this one will vary from listener to listener (reader) depending on your own experiences or trope preferences. Some are going to find the alternate ending a really cool device and love getting to see how the love triangle plays out with both scenarios.

Speaking of the love triangle trope. I'll be the first to admit that I run from those so take my reaction with a grain of salt. The book doesn't hide the fact that the triangle is central to this story so I went in knowing one of my least favorite tropes was at the heart of things.

But, I can't honestly say that my usual reason for hating the trope was entirely at fault. I'm not a fan, but yet, I was pulled into this story anyway. I kept shaking my head over these people and particularly Nat. This was a hot mess and they all caused it. I was curious to see how it was all going to shake out in the end.

Yes, Nat was pretty much in love with two men even after the past since Jake turned his life around and she couldn't let go of either. However, there was also ample evidence that those men were not best friends though they claimed it. Kyle should have never been close to Nat until things were good and done with Jake and Jake should have never moved into that loft of his ex and his best friend. Then, all three of them were in denial together until denial couldn't work any more and we have this part of their story.

So, there are some cool and fun aspects. It has some summery vibes with the cruise ship segment. But, the alternate ending options with the love triangle trope jarred me. Again, I think that it will be a riot for others and fun times will ensue though there are some deep heartfelt moments that come out because Nat struggles with having a baby and had miscarriages. It wasn't a fluffy one and had some good layers to it.

As to narration, Erin Mallon killed it as usual. I've enjoyed her work since the first book and many since. She does well with that wry voice of a heroine who is facing something tough. Both genders sound well as does pace, catching the tone of the writing and specific scenes. She raises the enjoyment of any book she performs.

I would recommend this one for those who are good with love triangles and who like contemporary romances with a strong comedy element.

not expected

I started this story and really wanted to get invested in the characters. I found the choices of the main characters to be more hot mess than endearing. I'm certain people can like this, but I struggled.

What a Predicament!

How do you end up living with your husband and your ex-husband (who are best friends)? I was very intrigued to find out how this story would play out.

Without giving anything away, I will say it was a very interesting predicament. I feel like so much of where the 2 relationships go are because of Natalies insecurities. She jumped way to fast from one relationship into another and made things awkward in her love life.

Once things started unfolding I just had to finish to see where everything would lead. With the 2 endings, I felt a little bit robbed. I invested my time and emotions into the story and the ending leads you down 2 completely different paths. It leaves me feeling like the story is unfinished but I still enjoyed the journey.

A quick, fun audio

Well, I’ve got to say. Not what I was expecting (not that I really knew what to expect). Before I get into the story, I will say I listened to this on audio and the narration (all Natalie’s POV) was perfect. Erin Mallon is one of my favourite narrators, just saying. Now back to the story. A fun read with Natalie and her husband and ex husband all living together and supporting each other. How can that be you ask yourself, can it really work? Not really is the answer. You know it’s all going to go wrong, I was expecting it to explode at every turn. The story bounces from past to present, but is easy to keep up with. I don’t want to post any spoilers so I’ll just say, well written, funny and sweet. Natalie did at times annoy me (maybe I was a little jealous of her), Kyle and Jake were quite the catch after all. I will also state this is not a ménage book, just in case you wondered. A quick enjoyable audio.

A little weird

I started this book hoping it would be funnier than it actually turned out to be. I didn't like the whole idea of cheating on your husband even if it was only kissing. And the alternate endings were a little strange I would have preferred the author to choose one way or the other instead of leaving it up to me. Erin Mallon's narration was the saving grace for this book.

My Two Husbands

I loved this fun, romantic comedy although I would not want to be Natalie and have to choose between Jake and Kyle. All of them made some mistakes in their relationships but I thought they were all very likable characters. I was actually hoping for the three of them to live happily ever after in a menage relationship but that generally only happens in dreams.

Erin Mallon is my favorite narrator and I love both her male and female voices so I loved that she was the one to bring this story to life. I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

My Two Husbands

This is defiantly a unique story, but I could totally see it playing out in real life. Kyle meets and asks out Natalie first, but his best friend wants her too. So Jake steps in during a bad situation as sweeps her away. All the way to marrying her. But Kyle as always been around and when Jake screws up years later, Kyle swoops back in to get the girl. Now they find themselves all living in the same house and things are getting a bit awkward. I love/hated how the author ends the story. I like that she gives you a choice, but I needed her to make the choice for me.....because I couldn't choose. This book is fun and funny. Erin Mallon does a fantastic job on the narration! She really brought this story to life!

Loved the narration

My Two Husbands was an interesting take on a love triangle story. Its the story of Natalie, her husband Kyle and his best friend Jake who just happens to be Natalie's ex-husband all living together. It was given to us in both the past and present day so we get an understanding and are brought up to speed on how the characters got to where they are. The story was unusual with likable relatable characters and you won't be sure who to root for in this tale and that's exactly what you have to do at the end.....choose who you want Natalie to end up with. I really disliked this alternate ending choice and it really spoiled the book for me.
I listened to the audible version of this novel. It was narrated by Erin Mallon who delivered an exceptional performance. Her narration of all three characters was flawless and she was easily able to switch back and forth between the male and female characters. I absolutely loved listening to her narrate this story.
While I enjoyed this story the ending was a disappointment for me however you might appreciate it and I would still recommend this tale to all lovers of Romantic comedies.

Enjoyable romance and great narration

This isn’t quite what I expected as it wasn’t really a comedy, in fact I found myself getting quite upset for all involved in the love triangle. This was a quite believable story of a couple who got together after the breakdown of the woman’s previous marriage to the guys best friend. I enjoyed the story but felt it was a bit confusing at times switching back and forth between current timings and events that happened in the past. I liked all three in the triangle and so when it came to choosing the end myself I just couldn’t and so listened to both endings, however after listening to them I definitely had a favourite. I would listen to this again as I feel it may improve on a second listening. The narration from Erin was a usual amazing and totally on point!
