Nothing held back

Lily lays herself bare.. I love it.. I think I love her (but not in a weird way 😉) I always thought she was balsy and a little lost, perhaps conflicted and I had no idea she had gone down such a destructive road. Im glad she has found her way back.

Lily Allen as told by Lily (and read by Lily too!)

In this companion book to her latest album, No Shame, Lily Allen excellently wrestles her story back from the relentless gutter press and gives an honest, sad and funny warts-and-all account of her life (so far.) Having her reading her own words (complete with weighty sighs and pauses) on Audible added to the intimacy of this very heartfelt, unguarded book.

Touched my heart

Lily, thank you. Thank you for your brutal honesty. Although you are a famous “pop star” I have been through similar phases & feelings, and it was cathartic to hear your story and cry along with you. Well done on everything that you have grown into. You should be so extremely proud.

Raw honest and insightful

I feel like this book has pried open the usually unseen layers that clearly comes with fame. Being a young woman in the public eye is clearly a difficult endeavour , but Lily articulates the experience with aplomb. My respect for her has grown 10 fold. A worthy read for everyone , no matter your opinion of Lily

So honest and upfront you have to respect this woman

Lily Allen is a decade or so younger than myself but her story is relatable in so much as she covers off the big issues many women will likely have dealt with in life.

This was an easy listen despite not being in chronological order. It’s possibly one of the most honest autobiographies out there.

As soon as you’re done you’ll want to listen to her fourth album. She’s a smart cookie as the book (as much as a cathartic experience for her, no doubt) is a genius bit of marketing too.

Dang Lil!

Such a brutally honest and raw account - you can really hear in her voice at how weary she is by this world, as well as the blantant hypogracy of celebrity, media and the music industry.. I really feel for Lilly, she is incredibly retrospective and wise and takes responsibility where warranted but also calls out her oppressors. I totally understand the cycles of self medicating and escapism trying to deal with the pain and betrayals that she has had throughout her life. I wish her well in her recovery and really appreciate her bravery at sharing her story. I hope to see her transcend all her hurt, invalidation and issues towards the life and empowerment she deserves. I'll be thinking about what she has shared in the days to come. if you see the world in Black and White don't read her book unless you want to challenge these boundaries and pre conceived notions; otherwise try keep your judgement at the door. she doesn't ask for your pity but understanding, she is human and a flawed one at that, but really who isn't?
