Publisher's summary

Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov were the most electrifying pairs skaters of all time, winning Olympic gold medals and countless major championships. Partners on and off the ice, they were inseparable until Sergei's sudden, tragic death at the age of 28. In the inspiring, heartbreaking My Sergei, Katia tells the remarkable story of their storybook romance and extraordinary career, paying loving tribute to her exceptional husband. She also speaks eloquently of her battle to overcome grief after Sergei's death, her struggle to raise their daughter Daria, and her dramatic decision to skate again...alone.

Don't do it

This review is for the abridged audio version.

Horrible, terrible, waste of my time. One of my students encouraged me to read this, and because she continually asked me, I finally picked up the abridged audio version. I'm glad I got it cheap. The recording sounds like it was recorded in a tin can half a world away. The accent was strong and hard to understand. The story is touching, but is told in such a sappy way that it is just about unbearable. Save your time. Find another book to read or listen to.

Terrible Audio

The worst book I have ever heard recorded. I can’t even understand the narrator due to scratchy, poor quality.
Never got to hear the story, sorry to say.

the Life of the Gold Medal Russian Pair~ 3 STARS

PLOT: fast and short story about the life of Russian Pair Skaters.

This book is not very long. it is told through the eyes of Ekatrina Gordiava from the early training and when she meets and skates with Sergei. The background of the old Russian System and the changes to the new. Eventually they marry and have a child. Win 2 gold medals at the Olympics. This is a good story for those who love skating and this sweet couple. I give this 3 STARS. the audio sounds like it was recorded in someone's garage and on a home recorder....and a Russian woman narrates. This is good but you have to pay attention because she drops words out of sentences. The Story is 4 stars but the rather poor audio quality and the distracting Russian narrator is less enjoyable than it could have been.

Fabulous story —-horrid performance

I own the hard copy of this book, which I’ve read many times. It is a FABULOUS story. Their love for one another was so tender, so precious. The story of their partnership, which began when they were 11 and 15, in the severe USSR regime, is amazing.

Firstly, abridged books are a tragedy. But the quality of this performance is the real tragedy. It sounds like it was recorded on someone’s cell phone, with popping and static, and the narrator’s enunciation makes it very hard to understand. Do not waste your money on this mess.

Short, Breath taking, Made me wish I had a love like that..

Beautiful, a bit of poor audio quality but that just added to the romance of it for me. Beautiful story, well told, the emotion of their life story is not lost in the performance. I loved it.

Buy it for the story not the audio

I grew up watching this couple. I fell in love with ice skating then and have yet to witness another pair like Katerina and Sergei. The story is told through Katerina’s heart. How she was able to put the story together after a tragic loss is unimaginable.
The AUDIO IS HORRIBLE. Scratchy, sounds like an old album. It is a book you have to truly pay attention to. Katarina is not a novelist, she’s an ice skater. She shared her and Sergei’s short life with the rest of us. She didn’t have to. She wanted to. And I for one am thankful and miss them together even more…..
buy this for the love story it is, not for the audio and keep in mind, This is a gift to us, from someone who lost her husband….-Maria

You can feel her pain in her reading.

I lost my husband too and the moment she said life goes on but yours is not, hurts. I know it's been years since Sergei passing but I pray for her and her family special healing.

Beautiful story by an inspiring woman

I’m a long time, hardcore “G&G” super fan. I have a copy of this book - I bought it right after it was released - but I haven’t read it in years. Happened across a couple videos of them skating and (tearfully) thought I might see if there was an audiobook version.

Once again I love it. My one complaint is that the audio quality is terrible, especially when the music plays. I honestly had to work pretty hard to be able to understand the reader because of this.
Still, I would highly recommend it to any fellow G&G or skating fans.
