Publisher's summary

The mutiny on HMS Bounty, in the South Pacific on 28 April 1789, is one of history's truly great stories - a tale of human drama, intrigue and adventure of the highest order - and in the hands of Peter FitzSimons it comes to life as never before.

Commissioned by the Royal Navy to collect breadfruit plants from Tahiti and take them to the West Indies, the Bounty's crew found themselves in a tropical paradise. Five months later, they did not want to leave. Under the leadership of Fletcher Christian, most of the crew mutinied soon after sailing from Tahiti, setting Captain William Bligh and 18 loyal crewmen adrift in a small open boat. In one of history's great feats of seamanship, Bligh navigated this tiny vessel for 3,618 nautical miles to Timor.

Fletcher Christian and the mutineers sailed back to Tahiti, where most remained and were later tried for mutiny. But Christian, along with eight fellow mutineers and some Tahitian men and women, sailed off into the unknown, eventually discovering the isolated Pitcairn Island - at the time not even marked on British maps - and settling there.

This astonishing story is historical adventure at its very best, encompassing the mutiny, Bligh's monumental achievement in navigating to safety, and Fletcher Christian and the mutineers' own epic journey from the sensual paradise of Tahiti to the outpost of Pitcairn Island. The mutineers' descendants live on Pitcairn to this day, amid swirling stories and rumours of past sexual transgressions and present-day repercussions. Mutiny on the Bounty is a sprawling, dramatic tale of intrigue, bravery and sheer boldness, told with the accuracy of historical detail and total command of story that are Peter FitzSimons' trademarks.

Excellent, but…

First half was epic in every way.
Second half not as much.
I would prefer it were written in sections of scene/ location. Instead, the story runs concurrently and a bit too much like a journal than the story it was in the first half.
Superb narrator!!!!!

Fascinating

The hours flew by in this incredible true life story. It would be wonderful to know for sure what actually happened on some points. The epilogue is just as interesting as the rest of the tale as it details some interesting theories on a few points of doubt. I recommend this book very highly.

Excellent Audiobook

Well written, well narrated and very exciting to listen to. I can also strongly recommend the book Batavia from the same writer. Tip: do not skip the epilogue!

Must Read

This is a very well-written, comprehensive account of the story of the Bounty and it's crew including all relevant events before and after. Well worth the credit and a must read if you are into history, sea travel or drama.

Couldn’t get enough

Incredible story, the narration keeps you interested and engaged, juicy details throughout. I couldn’t wait to get in my car every day to listen to the next chapter and stayed in the car often long after my destination was reached. A great buy

Outstanding Book and Narration

Obviously the book itself is a classic and I won't even try and review that part. The narration was great and really brought the story to life for me. I would highly recommend this version.

Essential read

As has been suggested by other, this story has everything: envy, tragedy, excruciating choices, betrayal, courage, endurance, plot twists, love, great narrator, etc.

What a great story with very conflicted characters

First of all this DEFINITELY DESERVES ITS OWN LIMITED SERIES ... you listening AMAZON?

What a great book lots of character background, lots of twists and turns, lots of hate and awe. Hate for h I s actions... in total awe of his skills. truly quite a feat.
