Publisher's summary

The busy summer tourist season is winding down in Busman's Harbor, Maine, but Julia Snowden senses trouble simmering for the Snowden Family Clambake Company. Shifty David Thwing - the "Mussel King" of upscale seafood restaurants - is sniffing around town for a new location. But serving iffy clams turns out to be the least of his troubles....

When Thwing is found sleeping with the fishes beneath a local lobsterman's boat, the police quickly finger Julia's brother-in-law, Sonny, as the one who cooked up the crime. Sure, everyone knows Sonny despised the Mussel King...but Julia believes he's innocent. Proving it won't be easy, though. It seems there's a lot more than murder on the menu, and Julia needs to act fast....

Includes traditional Maine clambake recipes!

ONCE AGAIN, A PLOT WITH TWISTS AND RED HERRINGS, OR ARE THEY? JUST WHEN YOU ARE SURE YOU HAVE IT, THERE IS A NEW DEVELOPMENT. LOVING JULIA AND CHRIS, ALONG WITH THE WONDERFUL CAST OF CHARACTERS.

Narration much better

The story and narration greatly improved by the third book. I wish the characters "Chris" and "Sonny" had more masculine voices, but I got used to them. Overall an enjoyable read.

Ok for the price

I got this book at a reduced price so can't complain too much. I didn't care for the narrator though. Something about her use of "AY" instead of "AH", for example, "AY restaurant" instead of a more conversational "AH restaurant" grated on me every time I heard it. I know its silly but I just found it annoying.

Ok story but I doubt I'd listen to another with the same narrator.

These characters are the worst!!

Everyone in this book is pushy & rude, and I find it odd how angry and frustrating each character was.
Julia (the main character) inserts herself into situations & spills everyone's secrets when she has no right to. I came to notice quickly she thinks she always knows best. She literally storms into people's homes demanding answers. Not to mention she expects her boss to hold her old job open indefinitely & hung up on him when he asked her for a final answer. She is just rude and bossy, and I was tired of her antics by chapter 5.
Her mom was equally grouchy. She snapped at Julia anytime she asked her where she had been.
Libby & Sunny argued violently in front of their innocent 9 year old daughter and neither Julia nor her mom stepped in to stop it. That was irritating.
And at the end Laurie Ann shows up & demands everyone cooperates & takes her on a boat to an undisclosed location... During a coming storm... I was beyond annoyed. Why is everyone in this book so bossy & rude? Do they not understand the word "no" or "please"? Sunny is usually angry & yelling, Libby is easily irritable. By the end of the book all I could think of was "man these people are the worst!" The only redeeming character was Chris & sometimes Quentin.. Genuinely the only sane characters. I'm pretty much done with this series.

Amazing! Highly recommend

I love all the twist and turns of this story! Barbara Ross keeps me interested and wanting more. Can’t wait for the next book! I feel like the characters are my friends. Dara R does an excellent job narrating and I’m very picky about the narration but Dara makes Julia come alive!

Overly dramatic narrator

The story was ok but I think it would have been better if I read it. The narrator's over the the top dramatization of the story nearly ruined it for me. I'm going to think twice about listening to the next book.
