A fascinating must-read for music lovers!

Music in the Bible is one of those rare nonfiction books which is actually really interesting and absorbing. If you’ve ever wondered what music and musical instruments were like during biblical times, you need to read this book! I’m not particularly religious, but learning about what music sounded like during the time of King David was extremely powerful.

I’ve read several books on this topic before. This particular author excels because he has a strong background in BOTH music and religion. I found his language clear and easy to understand, and I learned a lot without it feeling like a painful textbook (though this certainly could be use as one - there are helpful charts and indices that would make this perfect for a worship studies, ethnomusicology or music history course). The author spent five years researching and writing this book and it shows if you’re at all interested in the history of music, this book is for you.

I read the paperback version of this book and then decided to listen to the audiobook. The audiobook was superior because there are musical recordings of some of the musical examples referenced in the book. It really helped me to picture what the author was writing about, and I enjoyed hearing the different styles of music and the way that they may have sounded in biblical times. Highly recommend!

Great read!

I found the book to be extremely interesting. As a worship leader, the connection to biblical worship really resonated with me.
