Publisher's Summary

Ever wanted to try growing mushrooms at home, but you weren’t too sure where to start, or you felt that it might be too complicated for you to try?

I can relate. Over the last decade, I have learned the craft of turning mycelium into mushrooms and have developed into an experienced mushroom cultivator.

When I first started growing mushrooms at home, the process appeared very daunting for a beginner, and I found myself purchasing books and reading extensively to try to get a better understanding of it all.

But I noticed that even the most extensive guides out there did not elaborate enough on the methods that are most valuable for the small-scale home-grower!

This easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide was designed to make the process of growing mushrooms at home as simple to follow along as possible. It will give you all the tools you need to become a confident grower and more.

  • A complete understanding of the cultivation process
  • Step-by-step guides on how to grow Oysters, Shiitakes, Maitake, Buttons, Lion’s Mane, and Enoki mushrooms
  • The secret ingredient I use to enhance my yield of mushrooms
  • Easy to follow, low-tech methods you can reproduce at home to make your own spawn
  • The most common signs of contamination and how to avoid them
  • Eight common problems mushroom cultivators experience and how to fix them

This was a great listen with so much valuable information. Who knew there was so much to learn. I really enjoyed the explanations of all the different mushrooms and what they are good for. This really was a good listen and I think I am going to try to grow some mushrooms.

Narration not acceptable

Sadly the narrator bumbles a lot. Unacceptable for a professional platform. Sounds as though they did this in the basement. Really takes me out of it.

Mushroom cultivation for beginners.

I rather randomly stumbled across this audiobook and in fact had no prior intention to grow mushrooms. However, I was drawn in by the cover and thought growing mushrooms could be a fun little side hobby to start. I’m amazed with how magnificent mushrooms themselves appear to be, from an ‘interest’ point of view chapter 1 blew me away. This is probably because I had no prior knowledge of mushrooms and thought they were just vegetables. Moving on, the rest of the book was equally as fascinating, the narrator really made me want to keep listening and the information was great. I’ve now finished the book and am looking into buying my very own first mushroom grow kit and then if this goes well I will look into buying some spawn. Thanks for inspiring me to a hobby I never thought I would take up.

Top instructions for getting started.

I'm assuming like many others listening to this audiobook, I am a fresh new face to the world of attempting to grow mushrooms. I have been a keen gardener for many years but have always viewed growing mushrooms as something a bit too difficult and complex for me as you always hear about the really high tech equipment you need. After listening to this my opinion has rather drastically changed. It seems as though Kris prides himself on his low-tech, easy to replicate at home by anyone and that’s what I loved about it. Of course there were some techniques that were a bit more advanced but overall everything seems pretty do-able. Only thing that’s left to do now is to start my very own journey of mushroom growing, Wish me luck!

Author Knows His Stuff

Woah, a bit blown away with how much information was packed into a 3 hour audiobook. This was absolutely well researched and the author speaks from a position of real authority and has obviously been doing this for many years. There are many different mushroom species covered, Lions Mane, Shiitake, Enoki and many more tasty ones. He gives you different approaches you can take when first starting out, for example; You can start off just using a grow kit at the very simplest level, then you can progress onto using ready made spawn to grow mushrooms and finally you can make your own spawn. That’s what I loved about this, he catered to differing entry levels for people wanting to take up mushroom cultivation.

This is a Brilliant Resources

This really has you covered if you’re thinking about starting growing your own mushrooms at home. I actually migrated over here from Amazon as I first bought the book by Kris Rowsan and then wanted to listen to the audiobook to really engross myself in all things mushrooms. This is an awesome resource for a beginner to mushroom growing like myself. I appreciated how he really breaks down the mushroom basics first of all so if you’re new to it you are quickly up to speed. The step-by-step instructions are the stand out feature though as they are clear, have pauses in between so you can absorb the information and are very easy to follow. This book is more centered around indoor growing than outdoor growing but there still is a chapter on outdoor growing which is interesting. If you are tentatively wanting to get into growing mushrooms at home but are a bit daunted by how difficult they appear to be then this is probably where you want to start.

Awesome! Time to get started.

Never thought an audiobook on how to grow mushrooms would work but it actually does 100%. I have used it several times when I’m actually growing and the step by step instructions are all explained so well.

The best book for mushroom cultivation.

I would say I’m an intermediate grower of mushrooms having started a few years back. I got this audiobook as a friend of mine recommended it to me as he said there was a good balance between beginner, intermediate and a few experienced growing techniques. For a beginner this would be a brilliant starting point. The step-by-step instructions are very useful and all explained very clearly.

Brilliant guide for beginners.

An excellent guide for mushroom cultivation for the absolute novice grower. I’ve long been keen to start my own mushroom cultivation journey but have been apprehensive as it looks complicated to do. I will be using this audiobook as my reference moving forwards as I try and accomplish my first successful mushroom harvest!

New hobby will be a fun one.

This is going to be my new hobby to focus on as we march on into 2023. I feel confident in this book given how easy everything was to understand. From everything I’ve read and heard people absolutely love mushroom growing when they get into it, so here’s hoping it will be the same for me too!

My favorite book this year.

I love learning a new skill and learning how to grow mushrooms certainly is a cool one. My wife bought me a grow kit last year but I thought it was a bit boring so I wanted to actually learn how to properly grow them so I took the leap of faith and went for this book. I was disappointed and can say this is very much the best audiobook I’ve listened to this year

Excellent Growing Resource.

I learnt a lot of new useful tips I hadn’t previously learnt from Youtube and a few other simple books I picked up on Amazon. This one seems to go into much more detail about the growing process and has some really good specific instructions on how to actually grow mushrooms for yourself. I’m now definitely interested in growing Lions Mane as I’ve heard they have some amazon medicinal properties as well as tasting amazing.

Mushrooms are fascinating things.

Today I learnt that a mushroom is not a vegetable…. Among 101 other things. At least I’m now up to speed with the ‘mushroom basics’ as the author calls it. The book was a nice listen and one that I will be listening to again in the future to ensure I can learn the growing parts effectively.

Newbie Approves.

For a newbie to the subject of growing mushrooms I’m glad with how this was written (and narrated). I was up to speed within the first chapter as it clearly laid out the mushroom basics. The rest of the book was pitched at a very good level to understand without being too simple that it was boring and slow. I felt myself learning pretty much continuously throughout.

Sizeable amount of content.

Much more content was put into this than I thought there would have been. Started off with a great mushroom basics chapter to get everyone up to speed with what the hell mushrooms actually are. It then moved onto the cultivation process, which was essentially another introduction chapter but this time to the growing process, which is essential if you’re wanting to learn how to grow them. The next few chapters focused specifically on the growing, the author walked you through specific instructions for many different mushrooms using many different growing materials. This was great as it allowed some choice where you could pick the mushroom you wanted to grow and the easiest type of growing material you could get your hands on. The last chapters were discussing how to make your own spawn, common problems you may run into and how to harvest and store your mushrooms once they’ve grown.
