Publisher's summary

Murders just didn't happen in the little village of Cole Harbor, Maine.

New York investigative reporter Laura Friday returns to Cole Harbor to recuperate from a near-fatal gunshot wound. When she and her aunt go picnicking on a nearby island, the ground gives way beneath her and Laura falls into a shallow grave, landing on a woman's skeletal remains. Now someone is leaving white rosebuds on Laura's doorstep.

Park Ranger Bryan Cole makes no secret of his attraction to Laura. Riddled with guilt that she's to blame for her best friend's death, Laura lets Bryan know she is not interested in anything beyond a platonic relationship, and he realizes he has his work cut out for him if he wants to win her heart.

A psychotic killer lurks in the town. The voices inside his head tell him Laura is the perfect woman. If she screams when he tries to love her, will there be another grave to fill?

Twists and turns at every page; suspense that has you hanging on your seat; so fast paced, you cannot stop listening; this book has it all! Well worth the read!

Miranda West narrated this story well. She brought out the suspense and made it feel as if I was right there with Laura. Her narration of Laura was exactly as I imagined Laura would be. Ms. West has an easy to listen to voice and a smooth male voice that did not seem forced. I liked this narration,

Fast pace suspense is a nail biter!!

This is a new-to-me author and I look forward to reading more of her work. Investigative journalist, Laura Friday, returns to her small hometown of Cole Harbor, Maine after she was seriously injured while investigating a mob boss. Now Laura is back recuperating, laying low, and staying with her only living relative, her Aunt 'Phylly'. She has purchased the town paper and is assisting Deputy Sheriff Mitch with his investigation of a cold case, as well as a recent murder. As if that isn't enough excitement, Laura has a stalker who is leaving her white roses. Meanwhile, Park Ranger Bryan Cole is attempting to woo Laura, without much luck, while also assisting in solving the murder. Who will Laura choose? Will Mitch and Bryan catch the killer before he kills again? And what of those mob bosses who are gunning for Laura? Never a dull moment in this book, what with a ghost popping in on a seance, Laura falling into a shallow grave with a woman's remains, and a psychotic killer. Nice HEA...even though I was rooting for the other guy...lol. I look forward to maybe Mitch's full story. Fantastic narration.

Highly recommend

Very engaging from start to finish. Well written. The story moves quickly yet characters, relationships and settings well presented and defined. Physical and cultural descriptions of Maine very good, and thoroughly but concisely presented without detracting from (in fact, it enhances) the action and suspense. Obvious research into, e.g., autopsies. I found Rogers' story and writing to be excellent.
West's narration was very good on characters' dialogue and accents but not to my personal taste overall.
I look forward to enjoying more work from Loretta Rogers.
