Publisher's summary

Christmas has arrived in sleepy McGill, Georgia, but holiday cheer can't keep temperamental Stella Reid from swinging a rolling pin at anyone who crosses her bad side.

This season, there are plenty. First, an anonymous grinch vandalizes a celebrated nativity display. Far worse, the scandalous Prissy Carr is found dead in an alley behind a tavern. With police puzzled over the murder, Stella decides to stir the local gossip pot for clues on the culprit's identity, and it turns out that Prissy held a prominent spot on the naughty list. Soon, suspects are piling up like presents on Christmas morning.

Unfortunately, the more progress Stella makes, the more she must confront. With a neighbor in peril and the future of her beloved grandchildren at risk, Stella must somehow set everything straight and bring a cunning criminal to justice before December 25th....

Awesome Book!

I have listened to all of the Savanah Reed Books & have yet to be disappointed. This one was no different ... absolutely wonderful! I love this family!

Great book

I love Granny Reid. We need more love and caring and cleverness like hers. A smart heroine with compassion and good teaching for her grandkids but not a push over. The publishers summary was written by someone who had not read the book. I listened to a sample from my library. Glad I did because it was from the prologue not the middle of the book like Audible. I fell in love with Granny immediately. Can not wait for the next one. BTW I have not read the Savanah Reid books but started listening to the samples looking for more Granny. I was very disappointed. The Savanah from this book does not seem likely to grow up to be that woman. I guess we will see. Loved the narrator , Mil Nicholson- amazing!!!

I Love G.A. McKevett!

I have been listening to this author for many years. This one was quite different, getting the perspective of Samantha Reid as a little girl and a younger more vibrant "Grannie". I love the sense of humor and the little subtle jibs...

A look back

A wonderful look back through Granny's eyes. Fleshes out many of the supporting characters that have run through the Savannah Reid mysteries.

For All Southerners, Grandkids, Grandmas All Over

Stella Reid, Grandma to seven grandkids (all named for towns in Georgia) is a southern lady all the way. She taught her best friend how to shoot a 22 while they were still in high school, out on the farm, whilst stealing their one and only cigarette (which gave them both a choking fit and made them sick). She's handy with a cast iron skillet, in more ways than one. And she don't put up with foolishness, whether its from her best friend's mean-as-a-snake, wife-beating husband, her no-a-count daughter-in-law, or her mischievous grandkids. She's at church on Sunday's, doesn't miss choir practice, and knows the town gossip almost before it hits the streets. She misses her husband, who died six years ago in a horrible farm accident . . . and although she's the prettiest fifty-something lady in McGill, Georgia, she doesn't pay the men (who all think she's divine) any mind at all . . . except for maybe one . . . When Stella and her grandkids are busy making right some overzealous art work that her grandson wielded on the town's nativity display, Stella is witness to a murder scene. And she is the last one to see Prissy Carr, the town's prostitute, alive. With Prissy dying in her arms and an unknown man fleeing the scene, Stella is able to determine that someone attached the young woman. But who? The women of the town all hate her . . . but it seems that more of the men than first imagined were well acquainted with the young, pretty woman. With gossip swirling and mean words flying, will Sheriff Manny Gilford be able to get to the bottom of the murder? I absolutely fell in love with this story . . . being the grown child of an alcoholic . . . and the recipient of the enormous love of TWO grandmas, who turned out to be my life lines. I hope this is the first in a series, and not just the prequel to the Savannah Reid books, because I want to know the rest of the story of the kids with their grandma . . . and what happens between Manny and Stella. Great Book!!!

A nice clean cozy with familiar characters

Very good listening, It moved a bit slow in some places. I like the fact that the characters are familiar in a whole new setting' I bought book 2 immediately upon finishing this one.
