Publisher's summary

When Evelyn Eldritch is struck by lightning, she gains more than just a shock to the system—she discovers she's a witch!

And if that wasn’t shocking enough, Evelyn is then blown away by the news that her long-lost mother has been murdered. With her trusty best friend by her side, Evelyn heads to the quaint village of Maiden-Upon-Avon—a community teeming with werewolves, witches, and vampires—oh my! But the icing on the cake? One handsome-yet-gruff policeman who has her heart racing faster than a boiling kettle.

Between juggling her mother's café, her magical training, and the eccentric residents of the village, Evelyn's got her hands full. And when another body turns up at the local cricket match, things go from bad to worse. With a growing suspect list and a series of magical mishaps, Evelyn starts to wonder if she's in over her pointed hat.

Infused with retro nostalgia and witty banter, Murder at Magic Cakes Café is a charming slice of magical England, layered with surprising twists and turns. So grab a cup of tea, snuggle up, and prepare to laugh your way through this electrifying tale.

Fun, and funny - and a bit suspenseful too

This is a quick easy fun listen made memorable by an exceptional narrator who creates a great range of characters and enlivens an already fast moving story of witchcraft, vampires, murder and a very very English village. And cakes

Tried a new genre; was very pleasantly surprised!

I'd been hearing all over about 'cosy mysteries' and wondered what they were, so I went with a narrator I know and trust from the world of Regency Romance because I didn't know anything about the author. Not at all disappointed, the story is charming; still exciting, but lovely and positive overall. It reminds me of Elizabeth Goudge's books (favourites of J. K. Rowling's growing up, apparently) in that everything is mysterious, magical, but ultimately lovely, but in this something actually happens plot-wise, which is more than can be said for 'The Little White Horse', delightful though it is. Stevie Zimmerman's crisp but empathetic Englishness is the perfect vehicle for this story, and she brings it to life wonderfully.

A Small Town Paranormal Cozy Mystery!

This was my first Rosie Reed‘s book, and won’t be my last. This is the first book in the English Village Witch Cozy Series, a Small Town Cozy Mystery. The characters are very interesting. The storyline is intriguing and captivating, filled with mystery and twists and turns. Stevie Zimmerman did an outstanding job with the narration. She has a beautiful voice, very pleasant to listen to. I enjoyed it. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily written this review. Looking forward to listening to the next book in the Series.

Wonderful Narrator and Delightful New Cozy Series

I really wished this book didn't end. I'm looking forward to listening to Book 2. This is the perfect series for Halloween. Not too heavy, just right mystery with a dash of light flirtations and an hilarious cast of witches, werewolves, vampires and more. The author has an incredible sense of humor and Evelyn is my new favorite sleuth. Plus, the voice for her grandma Joannie the witch was incredible - if Angelica Houston played a character on the Crown, it'd be over-the-top Joannie. Loved it!!!

Fun First In Series

Evelyn is having a rough week. First she gets hit by lightning while rescuing her sister's cat. Then she gets a call that her biological mother is dead. If that isn't enough, she finds out she is a witch and may become the victim or suspect in a murder. Join Evie as she navigates unknown waters in a town with witches, vampire, werewolves, and at least one murderer. Evie is a likeable character, as are most of the other characters, and they all have more stories than we have been privy to - yet. This was a fun read, and I will be reading book 2.
