Publisher's Summary

Andy Buckland isn't thrilled when sexpot celebrity chef Lacy L'Amour decides to open a competing ethnic restaurant in small-town Beaverton - right across the street from Andy's pasta shop, the Bowtie Angel. And matters heat up when L'Amour sets her sights on both Andy's customers and her man, Malcolm Jones, who has been acting strange lately. But all of that pales in comparison when Andy's long-lost daughter is suspected of arson. Suddenly the town's outrage reaches a rapid boil, and the future of the Buckland-Rosetti clan is about to go up in flames. Can Andy beat the competition, keep her man, and catch an arsonist before her hard won reputation is reduced to cinders?

Liked this one too!

The narrator really captures this character well. I love the relationship between Andrea and her best friend. I almost felt there should have been another book in between this and the first one. Seemed like alot happened since the first book. Looking forward to the next one!

Great !

If you could sum up Murder á la Flambé in three words, what would they be?

Exciting, Suspenseful and funny

What was one of the most memorable moments of Murder á la Flambé?

When Andy decided to let everyone know that Kaleigh was her daughter

What about Suzanne Cerreta’s performance did you like?

Yes absolutely !! I listen to a lot of Audible books and she's one of my top 3 narrators.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Andy's father came in and saved her from the fire.

Any additional comments?

I hope there is a book 3 in the works. I just love what you do with these characters, the way they talk what their actions are. The only problem is there are only 2 books :0( .. I hope there are additional books in the future and soon ! This series is a must read.

Do not like this main character

I liked the first book and the Christmas short, but this installment is just so irritating. Andrea is a complete shrew in this one. Why would any man put up with her jealousy, lies, eavesdropping, bitchiness, stupid decisions, etc.? I have wasted a credit.

Fantastic Romcom Mystery

I enjoyed this book. The main character is Andrea (Andi) who is a talented chef with wacky relatives and friends. Her relationship with Malcolm Jones is never dull. A murder occurs in the freezer of her restaurant and her P.I. boyfriend investigates to clear her name.

The narrator Suzanne Cerreta was fabulous. She was able to provide Malcolm with his New Zealanders accent. The same goes for Andi's aunt with her Italian accent. Her natural southern drawl is perfect for the people of Beaverton.

Perfectly cozy

Every book gets better! I adore everything I have read from Jennifer. I love her wittiness. Her stream of conscience writing for her main characters just speaks to me. Her characters burrow into your heart and you feel with them. Whether they are happy or sad or scared to death she brings you along with them making you feel it too. She nails cozy mystery romance with finesse and all uniquely funny shenanigans. This book has tons going on. There is lots of character and relationships growth and things coming at you left and right. Fast paced but super fun listen because the narrator is perfect for this book!

Disappointed

Though I haven't loved this series anywhere near as much as I loved the Mackenzie & Mackenzie P.I. series (you should totally listen to it!), it hasn't been horrible.

"But, Krystal, you rated this only two stars!"

Why, yes, dear review reader, I did. And I'll tell you exactly why, hopefully without going on a rant. I've already wasted too many minutes of my life ranting about this book to family, friends, and co-workers.

Look, I said it earlier: I love the Mackenzie & Mackenzie series. It set me up to love Jennifer L. Hart as an author and Suzanne Cerreta as a narrator (she's so great). So I probably went into this series with a higher expectation than it warranted, which is why I've been a bit disappointed in the Southern Pasta Shop series.

But what set me off with this book in particular was the author's treatment of mental health issues.

V
[We found out in the first book that Andy's mom suffered from depression throughout most of her life and eventually committed suicide after being diagnosed with cancer. On top of all that, Andy was the one to find her mother. So totally understandable that she might be a little messed up when it comes to her mom.

But the scene when Andy and Malcolm are in the vehicle after having met her father for the first time, Malcolm called her mother deranged. Yes, deranged. I absolutely lost my temper with the audiobook at that point. I had to double check when this book was published to see if Hart's ignorance around mental health issues stemmed from the book being published many years ago. Nope, 2015. So Hart has absolutely no excuse for her choice of words and dismissiveness when it comes to mental health issues. I can't even with this book anymore.]

END SPOILER

Argh, I promised myself no more rants over this book.

Because of that one small incident, the rating for this book dropped. Otherwise, it would have been maybe a 3.5-star listen. On top of all that, I have lost a desire to continue with this author, even though I have more of her audiobooks lined up in my Audible account. Words matter and how you portray mental health issues and how your characters - especially your main characters - respond to them matter. Do better, authors. Do better for your readers, your listeners, and for anyone who suffers from mental health issues, whether they consume your books or not.

Delightful

Delight and enjoyed. The authors books are always enjoyable as was the narration by Stephanie .
Competition for Andy when Lacy comes to town, and wants to take over everything, in including her man, things come to a head.

Murder á la Flambé

I love Andy and her wacky family. It does seem like she gets the short end of the stick all the time. I am hoping that some of that gets resolved in the next book and bad things happen to people who are not nice to her, and she gets her TV career back, I really like these characters and want all the good things for them!

Suzanne Cerreta is perfect for Jennifer L. Hart's stories. I am definitely going to look for more by her!

Loved it!

Another great book in the series. If I've a criticism, it's that it is sometimes hard to keep track of their convoluted relationships. But it also adds depth to the story. Love the romance!
