They also know his former classmate-turned-famous best-selling novelist, Godfrey Priest. But someone in Athena took Godfrey off the best seller lists - permanently, and with extreme prejudice. Enjoyed the storyline.

The story was very interesting, but I had to push myself to listen until the end. Having a female narrator for the male protagonist was off-putting. The narrator was unable to deliver a good masculine voice., and most of the voices sounded the same. Also, the 18 year old male sounded like a child. I would like to listen to more in this series, but will not unless a different narrator is used.

Needs make narrator

This might have been a decent cozy mystery. The Narrator is decent, BUT this book needed a MALE narrator. Having a male lead character is unusual. Still, I might would have read the rest of the series, but I only do audible.

7th-grade reading level or below

If you enjoy Agatha Christie, Dorothy L Sayers, and other greats of the genre, this series is not for you. The writing style is simplistic enough to suggest that it was written for either ESL readers or children, though the latter seems unlikely, given the subject matter. The performance, slow and measured, only adds to the impression that you're sitting at an ESL exam and this is part of the listening comprehension portion, to assess whether you've reached A2 level of English mastery.

Narrator

Why a woman narrator? it was a distraction. the main character was likable. There were adequate surprises.

Nice cozy, wrong narrator

Nice little cosy mystery, loved the cat.

Female narrator - absurd choice. Erin Bennett is a very good reader, but the first-person voice in the book is supposed to be male. Distracting.

Poor choice of reader

Why choose a female reader when the main character is male? And she didn't even try to use different voices for different people.

Easy Listening

It kept my interest, it's not Agatha Christie, but it's easy listening when doing a project like tax returns.

Fun Start to Series

Athena, Mississippi is a good place to land for Charlie Harris and his Maine Coon Cat, Diesel. As a librarian at the university where he works and is an archivist, he meets with famous author about leaving his papers to he university. But someone wants Godfrey Priest dead and now a murder must be solved. A cat who walks on a leash is just one of the delightful characters in this book.
